🦢 💔 🦢 Just learned some sad, even maddening news shared by the Wildlife Freedom Foundation on Roosevelt Island. On Thanksgiving Day, one of the two majestic swans we enjoy seeing from our island shores or in their Hallett’s Cove home when the @NYCFerry docks in Astoria, was killed. Swanny was found dying of a head trauma in his beach home along Vernon Blvd, reportedly killed by a rock.
One hopes Swanny’s partner, Odette, finds a new lifemate. And as @wfffoundation posted, RIP Swanny – Fly High 💫✨💔.

The marine traffic being diverted away from the United Nations Headquarters to travel under the #RooseveltIslandBridge during flocking UN Week doesn’t ruffle these feathers.
Ignoring the hubbub in their habitat, these two swanmates for life paddled across the busy channel to the shores of #RooseveltIsland for a date night to get some takeout. They eventually returned to their home in #AstoriaQueens near Hallett’s Cove Beach.
Not too long ago, Swanny was rehabilitated for a wing injury by the @wfffoundation at their state and federally licensed wildlife sanctuary on Roosevelt Island; you can see a video of the swans’ reunion after a four-month absence due to the rehab in their earlier Instagram post! 👏👏👏
