The sod has officially been turned on the new €30 million construction phase of Waterford Airport.

The major redevelopment will see the runway extended to more than 2,200 metres and widened to 45 metres, allowing large commercial jet aircraft to operate from the airport once again.

The project aims to bring back commercial passenger services, with hopes the airport could handle more than 400,000 passengers annually within three years.

Kyle Butler was at the event speaking to investors, local representatives and those behind the project about what this means for Waterford and the South East.
