🏆 🥇 Winners! Consultancy of the Year (51–300 employees) at the CIBSE Building Performance Awards 🥇🏆

We’re proud to share that XCO2 has won the Consultancy of the Year (51–300 employees) award at the CIBSE Building Performance Awards.

This is the third time we’ve won this category, and our fifth CIBSE Building Performance Award overall.

Our first two wins came in the Consultancy of the Year (up to 50 employees) category in 2022 and 2023. Since then, our team has continued to grow while staying focused on the same goal – delivering buildings that perform better in practice and helping move the industry towards net zero.

Over the past year this has included leading work on the Hackney New Homes Programme, completing the first cycle of the XCO2 Academy, and expanding our post-occupancy evaluation work.
A huge well done to our team, whose expertise, curiosity and commitment to improving building performance make this work possible!

🏆 In a week of awards success, we’re pleased to share that XCO2 has been selected for this year’s Good Employer Guide by Building Magazine.

At Good Employer Guide Live last week, we were also given a special achievement commendation recognising our pioneering nine-day fortnight.

The Good Employer Guide highlights organisations across the built environment that are investing in skills, training, wellbeing, pay and inclusive workplace cultures. We’re proud to be included alongside others working to build better places to work across the industry.

A big well done to our team – and thank you to Naomi and Bianca, who were there on the night to pick up the award.

🚨 Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard Version 1 launched today! 🚨

We are excited to see the launch of Version 1 of the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UK NZCBS) today. The Standard creates a unified definition for Net Zero Carbon Aligned Buildings in the UK, setting mandatory limits for a range of metrics - including upfront carbon and operational energy - and requiring performance to be measured in-use.

We are delighted to have supported Ellie Burkill's secondment to the UK NZCBS, where she has served as Chair of the Technical Steering Group, taking the Standard through Pilot Testing and into development of Version 1, ensuring it responds to the real-world feedback received.

XCO2 has also been involved through Tom Kordel’s role as co-lead of the Homes Sector Group during the development of the standard.

At XCO2, we are already getting stuck into reviewing Version 1, and are looking forward to supporting formal uptake of the Standard once Verification launches.

🔗 Read the Standard and see what's changed since the Pilot Version was published at the link in bio

East and Hackney Council are working to deliver 55 council homes for social rent and shared ownership on the Frampton Park Estate in the centre of the borough. Last night the scheme was approved at the Planning Committee.

East’s design for the Atrium Building will complement the pre-existing layout of the popular estate with its successful and much loved walkways. The building is formed around an oval courtyard garden circled by a steel colonnade, which provides access to the individual flats. The homes themselves will be well-proportioned and centred around a generous hall. The rooms leading off the hall will be functionally flexible – a bedroom in one flat may be the living room in another – allowing the homes to evolve over time with the needs of their residents.

We are currently working in a PCSA contract for @hackneycouncil with @kindbuilders , @whitbywood and @xco2_e and are aiming for a start on site at the end of this year.

We’re delighted to be involved once again with the excellent Build The Way C.I.C Programme – a nine-month traineeship offering an alternative and accessible route into a career designing and shaping our built environment.

As part of the programme, we hosted Margot Kramarczyk, Hillary Sembeguya, Grace Austen-Reed, Miku Ikeda-MacDermott, Rumman Chowdhury and Shiloh Ford for a day at our office.

Through speaking with engineers and consultants across the practice, the group gained an insight into what we do at XCO2 and our role in the built environment – understanding building services and energy performance. From exploring the use of renewable technologies such as air source heat pumps to understanding the importance of passive features in improving the energy performance of a building, the trainees took their role seriously in producing ideas for a net zero carbon residential block.

A huge thank you to Basant for leading the session, to the trainees for their enthusiasm and curiosity, and to everyone who shared their insights with the trainees on the day.

We look forward to seeing what’s next for the Build The Way trainees as the programme continues.

We’re recognising XCO2 as one of the first organisations to join the Part W Supporters’ Circle.

By becoming a supporter, XCO2 is helping sustain the research, advocacy and campaigns pushing for gender equity in the built environment.

Backing this work sends an important message: equity isn’t just something to talk about — it’s something to support and invest in.

Thank you @xco2_e for standing with us as part of this inaugural year. #WeArePartW #PartWSupportersCircle #IWD2026

🌟 National Apprenticeship Week 🌟

What's it really like to be an engineering apprentice?

We caught up with our Building Services Design Engineering apprentices, Oliwia and Umar, to hear about their experience so far.

The full interview is on our website (link in bio) — but here are a few quick-fire answers 👇

1️⃣ Most confusing acronym
Oliwia: LCR, turns out it was a acronym for a project (I thought it was a Electrical system). On a serious note, FFL.
Umar: SLL (Society of Light & Lighting), lways think it’s SSL.

2️⃣ Drink order of choice
Oliwia: Lemonade.
Umar: Kinder Bueno milkshake.

3️⃣ Early start or late finish?
Oliwia: Early start.
Umar: Early start — all day, every day.

4️⃣ Teams or email?
Oliwia: Teams.
Umar: Teams. 1000%.

5️⃣ Office day or WFH day?
Oliwia: WFH! Office day sometimes.
Umar: Office day on warm days. WFH when it’s a rainy day.

View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
