7 a.m. — 3 p.m. are the working hours of the Greek public sector, where Michalis worked as a young man in the 1990s. His day job as a technician at the Ministry of Commerce gave him the opportunity to develop his photographic prowess with an insider’s point of view into a world which, though much maligned, has rarely been captured on film.
Through mountains of paperwork, clouds of cigarette smoke, and a labyrinth of austere office spaces, what shines through in Michalis’s photos, is the humanity of his former colleagues. In moments of concentration, boredom, exasperation, and celebration, the bureaucrats we all love to blame for everything, become our friends, our relatives, ourselves.
