We’re very proud to have EarthPercent on the Tedx stage - created and devised by @sophiashnapp who’s been a force of nature in the team.

As she explains, music has ALWAYS moved us. But what if it could move something more? After a decade inside climate policy, Sophia realised something simple: policy alone doesn’t shift systems. Culture does.

And music, one of our most powerful cultural forces, already runs on a model of shared value. Our co-founders @brianeno, @hirokishirasuka and @callanadam asked: what if the Earth had a seat at the table?

That’s why EarthPercent exists. To channel the immense power of music to the Earth: and giving her back a cut. Artists and music companies are now pledging a percentage of their income, from touring, recordings, songwriting, back to the living world.

Sounds like a load of BS? Who thought @soundsright.earth was a good idea?

More than 30M fans have listened to NATURE, including tracks by +200 artists who’ve featured sounds of the natural world in their music — such as Hozier, AURORA, David Bowie, and V of BTS. This has generated nearly half a billion streams on Spotify alone, helping the Sounds Right Fund allocate +$1.2M in revenue to frontline conservation by the end of 2026.

But not everyone thought this was a good idea at first. Despite around 600 media outlets carrying the joyful story that NATURE is now credited and paid as a music artist, hosts from Talk TV (the so-called “home of common sense”) ridiculed the concept. Two years on, we think Sounds Right has played a small part in making it common sense for nature’s creativity to be properly valued in our society.

We’re excited to announce our support of @earthpercent, championing their mission of protecting the planet through music 🌎🎵

EarthPercent utilises the existing structures within music, inviting artists and industry to support some of the world’s most vital climate and nature projects identified by their Expert Advisory Panel, via collective pledges in tours, festivals, albums and songwriting.

Their Co-Founder and Cultural Polymath @brianeno will be sitting down with Grammy award-winning multi-instrumentalist and EarthPercent Artist Ambassador @jacobcollier for a conversation around how music can be used to help tackle the climate crisis.

It celebrates the life of David Attenborough, and his 'witness statement' that calls for a stark change in our relationship with nature to preserve life for future generations.
