You might have already seen the viral AI-generated KFC spec ad by @davinci_production

While @jorisnoordenbos , @chuckstudios , @b_stylinglife , @simonpauldop and @alehmadrid have already exposed that the entire thing was essentially just a 1:1 copy of their work, at least the intro was made by David himself - using Blender in order to give him “maximum control over the camera movements”, as he states… right?

While there’s no way to say for sure if he used my work as direct input for the AI, I simply can’t believe someone would go through all that effort, only to end up with something that already exists, basically 1:1. Especially if the same person already blatantly copied other people’s work with the help of AI.
Sure, I had to slow down my scene a bit to make the movement match perfectly, but honestly.. the similarities can’t be denied.

This isn’t the first time my work’s been copied and I usually take it as a big compliment. But as soon as AI enters the picture… imagining someone might’ve just told an AI to replicate not only my concept & style/technique, but the whole environment along with the camera movement and everything.. just hits different. It for sure brought up a wild mix of emotions— and honestly, most of them were not exactly pleasant, lol.

And don’t get me wrong: I know AI is here to stay, I’ve also already integrated a bunch of different AI tools like AI upscaling for textures and AI assisted motion capture into my daily workflow. Nonetheless, this whole development in general has me worried about how we, as humans, will value art and craftsmanship in the future.

That said, talking to other artists about these types of worries has helped me, personally, immensely.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts too!

Oh and I gotta get one last thing off my chest:
All this talk about AI “democratizing art” and “making it accessible” is, honestly, objectively…hilarious.
I created this scene entirely in Blender (a 100% free, open-source 3D program). Meanwhile, people are willing to pay $40–200 a month to some shady company led by a questionable, ultra-rich CEO.
Make it make sense. 🤷‍♂️
