Murkage Dave
‘Brut Thoughts’ Out Now

@murkagedave isn’t just a singer-songwriter from East London but a cultural custodian. His new full-length ‘Brut Thoughts’, out now, is Murkage Dave at his introspective best. Informed by a touring stint with Yard Act in 2024, it’s a potent, poetic reflection of our fragmented times; exploring an unregulated internet culture, the immigrant experience, political extremism and the power of community.
In his Roaring Visions essay for CLASH 133, Murkage Dave ruminates on stifled expression, the need for care and compassion in a time marred by extreme nationalism and nativism, and why art should always be the great leveller.

All praise to @larrybusinessofficial he has smashed it with this. Please go watch the full thing on YT ⭐️

A big Krankenhaus welcome to one of the UKs most singular voices, Murkage Dave, who has spent the last decade crafting a body of work that refuses to fit neatly into any genre box. His music, loosely pop but informed by indie, outsider art, and an instinct for storytelling, is built on honesty, empathy, and fearless social commentary.
Across his career he has earned a cult following and high praise from Pharrell Williams and Iggy Pop,
His latest album ‘Brut Thoughts’ is a cathartic soundtrack for life in late capitalism, the album draws inspiration from Talking Heads, Sampha, The Smiths, and The Streets. It came together in an unorthodox, nomadic way, across living rooms and borrowed studios in London, Manchester, Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and the Danish countryside. “Like most musicians in London, I can’t afford a studio,” says Dave. “So I put a call out to see who’d let me crash and write. I ended up in right-wing and left-wing parts of the country – Bristol, Margate, Cardiff, Leicester, Manchester, and the Reform stronghold of Ashfield.”
The record’s collaborative spirit is central to its DNA, featuring contributions from James from Yard Act, Kayus from Young Fathers, Ellery from WU LYF, and Lauren Auder.

Shubeen runs headfirst to Skatecafe on June 6th for another annual gathering where we put the diaspora first. A 3-room takeover dedicated to migrant sounds, global bass pressure and the beautiful weirdos who make nightlife worth leaving the house for.
At the helm: co-founders Murkage Dave and Passion DEEZ going back-to-back, back-to-black, back-to-the-old-school after last year’s sold-out madness. No stone left unturned as they ascend from global club sounds to leftfield classics to Dalston Junction kebab shop bangers to Hotep Hip Hop and all that good stuff, this is a b2b you don’t want to miss.
Amsterdam denizen, Murkage Dave, is fresh from his new studio album Brut Thoughts, filled with collaborations from Cinnaman, Yard Act, Young Fathers and Lauren Auder, supported on BBC Radio 6 Music and he also holds his own radio residency on Refuge Worldwide. He just came off stage from a headline show at Village Underground and is itching to get back in the booth with his club compatriot DEEZ.
Warming up the dance, we got Garnett. Born in Northampton, raised in the shubeen and now based in Amsterdam, Garnett brings a deeply rooted sound shaped by reggae, dub and dancehall. Echoing past eras within today’s club landscape, channelling the spirit of soundsystem culture into something future-facing.
Flying in from Los Angeles straight to the club, Bianca Oblivion joins us fresh off shutting down dances worldwide with razor-sharp selections, unreleased dubplates and an undeniable commitment to making the girls shake ass. The NTS resident doesn’t come to play nice. Joining her is Popolaclab founder Yeimy. Think dembow, think merengue, think cumbia, think salsa, think reggeton, choose life.
In 1900, dengdeng will build a room fueled by sweat and rhythm building a house party on steroids. Joining her is global-local multi-disciplinary legend Cata.Pirata. After touring the world with SKIP&DIE, she is pushing things forward solo.
June 6th. Skatecafe. Three rooms. One annual gathering. Tickets are live now, and you already know how this goes. Don’t wait until the group chat starts begging for Ticketswap links. Limited free spaces for Subbaculture members.
