Spring is springing, SIM is SIM-ing! coming out the cocoon with some new music to bless your ears 🤭

“Wampa! / 3rd Space”is the latest release in the ongoing series, further developing the Slow Tech approach.

A-side “Wampa!” draws from UKG swing, slowed and weighted into a sluggish, grounded framework. Percussive elements pull deliberately against the grid, creating drag and tension, while negative space and low-end pressure function as key compositional components.

B-side ‘3rd Space’ shifts focus toward rhythmic measures and repetition as compositional tools. Patterns cycle with minimal variation, allowing subtle shifts in timing and emphasis to reshape the groove over time. Pulse becomes architecture, resulting in a hypnotic, functional structure designed to reward close listening and sound system clarity.

Together, the release sits between club utility and abstraction, extending the series’ Slow Tech logic — where reduction, control and spatial detail become the primary drivers of movement.

Before the year ends, I wanted to share an update on the development of the Sound System as a Boundary Object concept. Because your support and feedback were instrumental in shaping it, it felt only fair to show you where this line of thinking has led me so far.

From the very first iteration, it became clear that categorizing sound system actors into distinct “realms,” while a useful first jet of ink, was not the most effective way to express what I was trying to articulate. Very quickly, I realized I needed to move into a third—perhaps even a fourth—dimension. Rather than thinking of these realms as fixed groups or isolated bubbles, I began to understand them as poles within a spectrum of collaboration: apexes of a pyramid rather than enclosed categories. This spectrum is represented by the faces of the pyramid itself. You can imagine it as looking down from above onto a stack of overlapping pyramids.

Once this shift was made, the next step was to reconsider the Creative, Scientific, and Social realms as boundary objects in their own right. In doing so, it became apparent that many political, spiritual, and technological dimensions of the sound system were absent from version 1 of the model. This led the concept to evolve into a more complex structure: a central pyramid resting on three supporting pyramids—specifically, a Sierpinski tetrahedron.

The points at which these underlying pyramids intersect represent the contexts in which collaborations take shape. When the Creative and Scientific realms meet, innovation in sound emerges within the paradigm of electronic art. When the Scientific and Social realms intersect, collaboration focuses on questioning, rethinking, and redesigning the systems that shape our environment. Finally, when the Creative and Social realms converge, they form the lived experience of artistic community—what we commonly refer to as the scene.

Beyond serving as an analytical framework, this can also be used as a map for self reflection: Where do you see yourself situated within the sound system? Which realms do you primarily operate in, and where do you find yourself crossing boundaries?

We launch the first edition of 𝗟𝗢𝗪𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗡, a new 90mil event series aimed at boosting accessibility in nightlife and bringing back affordability to the rave. Heavyweight line-ups for 5 euro entry all night long.

For our first edition, we welcome Montreal’s 𝗦𝗜𝗠 the ‘slow-tech’ innovator, a genre and philosophy which mutates influences from dub, dancehall, techno and jungle into a new rhythmic blend.

The talented sound designer and bass DJ, 𝗠𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗘 𝗩Ô𝗦, joins from LA on their Europe tour. Aside from their tight selections and productions, Vôs is also committed to skill-sharing with other FLINTA and LGBTQ+ artists via Ableton workshops and audio production classes for non-profit organisations.

𝗢𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗬𝗔 𝗕, the artist formerly known as AUCO, joins lowdown. The Berlin- and London-based DJ fuses UK bass with global club sounds. Their AAJ Radio show, “Bass Breaks and Bacchanal,” dives into UK bass, Dancehall, and Caribbean-infused club energy.

Local artist and Cancunese DJ, 𝗥𝗘𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗭, opens the night next Friday. He has made a number of releases on Appendix.files, merging dub techno influences with ‘ADHD-ambient’ and wonky rhythms.

El nombre de “Bonche” es un homenaje al espíritu de las raves de República Dominicana. Noches en cuevas y playas, bajo el calor denso del trópico. La música sigue el espíritu: sonidos deep, cercanos al IDM, techno y breaks, fusionados con estructuras rítmicas autóctonas del Caribe y Latinoamérica.

Para la primera edición, recibimos la visita de SIM, productor e investigador de Montreal, un verdadero científico del bajo que nos trae un live set de su estilo original: “Slow Tech”, una mezcla entre las sonoridades del dancehall y el techno, presionando los límites del sound system y de la mente. En el apoyo local: Velvet Kid, colaboradora en @rblbarcelona y DJ, de Perú, afincada en Barcelona. Su estilo explora el místico espacio entre el dub, breaks y el roce de estos sonidos con otros ritmos latinos. Crazy to think that this pic was taken 14 years ago, around the same time I had receive my brain tumor diagnosis — something that would quite literally change the trajectory of my life. This makes me reflect on so many levels. but what is most interesting is the caption: "Just doing as always :)" a proof that electronic music was a place of refuge, in a time of uncertainty. the only certain thing was it would be a major part of my life, just like the tumor.

Anyways , I wanted to share with you an inspiring moment of mine, in hopes that you can reflect on the place electronic music holds in your life.

@sim_mtl is a Montreal-based artist, researcher, and community facilitator working at the intersection of Sound System culture, electronic music, and socially engaged research. With over 15 years immersed in Montreal’s electronic music ecosystem, his practice centers on building third spaces where sound becomes a vehicle for shared connections..
At the core of his artistic vision is Slow Tech, a term he coined to describe both a musical direction and a broader philosophy. Drawing from genres such as dub, dancehall, techno, and jungle, Slow Tech operates as a gravitational field where influences orbit with intention and depth.

The next Club Soft is May 9th at @thelastarch !! 🧃✨ We are so excited to be joined by Slow Tech pioneer @sim_mtl who will be performing live, bringing his mutative boundary-pushing sound to the Last Arch system. 🔉

We are also delighted to have a DJ set from @tryb_official - a selector who brings joy and energy to dancefloors and radio stations in London and beyond - expect bass-heavy club rhythms and sun soaked grooves. ✨

+ our residents @minamusicuk will be bringing her signature high energy club sounds rooted in rhythm and euphoria, and rave architects @sanaasuculenta + @shrykeox3 will be bringing their exhilarating blend of 140, footwork, jungle, dubstep and more. 🧃

We are also hosting a free (with ticket) movement workshop with @niamh_keady from 5.30pm, designed to help you explore movement within a club space at your own pace! ✨
