Sylvia Sleigh’s rarely-shown 1963 portrait of Johanna Lawrenson is currently on display at Daniel Malarkey’s (@danielmalarkey) London space as part of a new exhibition of the Welsh-born artist’s portraits titled ‘The Bridge’. This opportunity to experience the painting in the flesh is one of very few, as Sleigh kept this particular piece largely to herself until her death in 2010.⁠

Curated by Malarkey, who gave Ocula a tour of his Bloomsbury space earlier this week, the enigmatic portrait is on view alongside seven other paintings by Sleigh, including her first ever commission and her earliest-known self-portrait. The exhibition is open until 15 July 2026⁠
