@greg_hackett’s playful DC, made with @being.mov, draws on a series of satirical and absurd scenarios to show that every used car has had a history before we buy it. Whether it’s a scorned wife taking their revenge on a partner’s prized Porsche, giving birth on the side of a busy road, or professing young love via heart-shaped donuts, these cars have all lived a life, and you can discover their pasts using Belgium’s roadworthiness inspection initiative, Car-Pass.

A friend, and true artist, Loyle asked me to co-direct this crazy idea with him. Set in his Dads ACTUAL car over the course of 14 hours we turned a random race track somewhere in South West London in to a pursuit, low-loading, and motion control exterior studio. I’ve never worked faster, and harder than throughout this project. It was nuts in all the best ways; from working out how to maintain the appearance of a one shot when utilising four different types of camera work - Moco, Hand held, Slider and then Pursuit vehicle - to battling the full British weather in an exterior moco shoot.

More to come on that in a few days, but for now, I wanna shout out @nosisa @bmealing @fredbwright @toddmartin @stitch_r jim & Rob from VFX @tim_swaby @barnywright who without this simply would not have been possible. We could only get 15 extras for the club scene, but I wanted to show a full top shot from a mega busy club, so instead, @jimallenvfx and I, with the help of @producerbooth laid out 13 repeatable squares on a large floor and had @adam_scarth_dop create a repeatable lighting chase across the space. We filled each individual square with the same dancers, swapping their clothes each time, until we had shot all thirteen squares. @no8ldn then took the separate images and meshed them together bringing to life the wide redacted club scene I’d been banging on about for months. Big love to @barneywright for supporting me all the way through with my crazy requests. Scroll right to see the making of video :) and their craft come to life.

*Spoiler alert* People have been messaging about how we got certain shots in the Navy spot. So, here’s a little breakdown of the club. We could only get 15 extras for the club scene, but I wanted to show a full top shot from a mega busy club, so instead, @jimallenvfx and I, with the help of @producerbooth laid out 13 repeatable squares on a large floor and had @adam_scarth_dop create a repeatable lighting chase across the space. We filled each individual square with the same dancers, swapping their clothes each time, until we had shot all thirteen squares. @no8ldn then took the separate images and meshed them together bringing to life the wide redacted club scene I’d been banging on about for months.
