Coast Guard crews across the Hawaiian Islands remain steadfast in service to our local communities.

We conduct search and rescue operations to help those in need. We maintain aids to navigation to facilitate the safe and secure flow of maritime commerce, a critical lifeline in Hawaii. We conduct maritime law enforcement to secure our maritime approaches and ensure mariners have the equipment they need in the event of an emergency.

Protecting people and safeguarding the nation drive our operations each day. For those in need, we are always ready.

The mission is clear: ensure that those in distress return home safely.

National Search and Rescue Week recognizes the Coast Guard men and women, along with responders in the search and rescue community, who answer the call when lives are on the line. Last year, the Coast Guard saved over 5,200 lives and preserved over $1 billion in property.

From vigilant watchstanders coordinating responses, to air crews and boat crews launching into challenging conditions, every rescue depends on teamwork, precision, and readiness.

To the entire SAR community: thank you for your courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to our most sacred trust.

The Coast Guard's boating safety recommendations remain constant: check the weather before getting underway, choose a life jacket that suits your on-water activity and #WearIt,carry a personal locator beacon that has been properly registered, and bring visual distress signals for both daytime and nighttime.

Today, I had the privilege of joining @potus Trump at the @uscg_academy graduation as we paid tribute to the 2026 class of cadets.

These men and women are heroically answering the call to service to defend and protect our homeland and our freedoms.

May God bless them as they faithfully serve our nation.

It was great meeting with my friend @secwar at @dhsgov headquarters today.

He joined me in thanking our @uscg personnel for the work they do day in and day out to protect our homeland.

We also discussed the importance of collaboration between DHS and @DeptofWar as we fulfill @potus mandate to keep the American people safe and secure.

CALIFORNIA CAVE RESCUE.

8 people were rescued in Santa Cruz after they were trapped in a cave by rising tides.

Thank you to the Coast Guard heroes who responded and helped airlift some of these people to safety.

106 years of Chiefs leading from the front.

Today, we celebrate the birthday of the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer: the leaders, mentors, and professionals who continue to anchor our service through courage, mentorship, and mastery of craft.

We’re also proud to release the manner of wear guidance for the Chief Petty Officer Cutlass, honoring the legacy carried by generations of Chiefs who protected our coast, enforced maritime law, and led from the front since the earliest days of our Service.

The anchors worn by Chiefs symbolize trust earned through service and leadership shown through example.

Happy 106th Birthday to all Coast Guard Chiefs. As the backbone of our Service, Coast Guard readiness depends on your leadership. We are proud to serve alongside you.

The call to serve is a call to action.

In the U.S. Coast Guard, that action is constant and varied. It’s saving lives in some of the world’s most perilous environments. It’s swiftly executing interdictions on the high seas, and meticulously facilitating commerce in our ports and waterways. It’s deploying advanced technology to defend our maritime approaches against any threat.

Every task, no matter how different, is a direct contribution to our life-saving work in service of the American people. The desire to “try everything” finds its purpose here, where endless possibilities unite under a single, unwavering commitment to the nation.

Drowning was the reported cause of 83% of boating fatalities, 88% of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets. The best life jacket is one YOU will wear when you are on the water. When accidents occur, there is usually little time to grab stowed vests. Wearing one at all times reduces the risk of drowning.
Wear your life jacket to work day kicks off National Safe Boating Week which begins this weekend. Stay tuned for more boating safety tips so you can stay safe on the water this season.
