The U.S. Coast Guard is honing our maritime fighting force through establishment of the Special Missions Command, which will unify our deployable specialized forces under one structure.

This change enhances how we protect America from threats on the water, beneath the ocean, and across our communities. By bringing these elite teams together, we will be able to respond faster to emergencies, disasters, and complex maritime challenges at home and abroad.

Special Missions Command will include units trained in counterterrorism, disaster response, ports and waterways security, counter‑narcoterrorism operations, expeditionary missions, and advanced diving and undersea work. Unifying these capabilities boosts readiness, strengthens coordination with partners, and modernizes how we carry out some of our most demanding missions. The command is expected to be fully operational in October 2026.

In March, Coast Guard Station Honolulu hosted an advanced maritime law enforcement training course for U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force operators. The program focused on high-speed vessel maneuvers, security zone enforcement, and coordinated threat response in complex maritime environments.

This marked the first time a Coast Guard unit delivered the @nasbla course locally to Navy and Air Force personnel, eliminating the need to send operators to mainland training facilities and enabling more timely instruction tailored to ports and waterways in Hawaii.

Strengthening joint coordination through training like this is integral to mission success. By building shared tactics, communication, and operational understanding across services, Coast Guard, Navy, and Air Force crews are better prepared to seamlessly integrate during real-world operations, enhancing our ability to determine and rapidly respond to threads, ultimately safeguarding the American people.

🧊164 days deployed. 14,000 miles navigated. USCGC Polar Star is home.

The nation’s only heavy polar icebreaker has returned from its 29th deployment to Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze 2026. The crew operated for 55 days below the Antarctic Circle to ensure continuous logistical support for the U.S. Antarctic Program. By facilitating commerce, projecting maritime dominance, and ensuring access to the polar regions, CGC Polar Star has proven the need for a robust national icebreaker fleet.

Mission highlights:

• Established a 7-mile navigable channel through fast ice to McMurdo Station.

• Freed a commercial cruise ship trapped in heavy pack ice.

• Escorted a tanker delivering 6+ million gallons of bulk fuel.

• Delivered the new NSF Discovery Pier in a joint logistics operation.

#BUSTED ❄️❌🚨
@uscg Cutter Resolute’s crew offloaded approximately 2,570 pounds of cocaine worth more than $19.3 million and transferred six suspected drug smugglers to federal authorities, Thursday, at Base Miami Beach.

The seized contraband was the result of three interdictions in the Caribbean Sea by the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma and the crew of the USS Billings with an embarked Coast Guard law enforcement detachment.

Coast Guard Cutter Resolute’s offload continues record-setting Coast Guard operations to interdict, seize, and disrupt transshipment of cocaine and other bulk illicit drugs by sea. This includes the Coast Guard’s seizure of over 511,000 pounds of cocaine in 2025 - over three times the Service’s annual average, as well as accelerated counter-narcotics operations in the Eastern Pacific through Operation Pacific Viper.

Since launching this operation in early August, the Coast Guard has seized over 215,000 pounds of cocaine and apprehended 160 suspected narco-traffickers. The Coast Guard’s persistent operations and rapid response have denied criminal organizations billions in illicit revenue and prevented the flow of dangerous drugs into American communities.

800 miles flown through Alaska’s harshest conditions.

Coast Guard crews launched out of Kodiak, flying through near-zero visibility, blowing snow, and icing conditions to reach a vessel trapped in moving ice near Chefornak.

Working alongside the Alaska State Troopers and local partners, they executed the rescue and brought all four people home safely.

In one of the world’s most challenging environments, we’re Always Ready to answer the call and deliver when it matters most.
