@h.t.a.k.a.h.a.s.h.i is a Tokyo-based composer and the founder of the record store and label @kankyo_records I had the pleasure of meeting and hearing H.Takahashi at @eachstory2026 Festival in Japan. I found his ambient set in the middle of a wooded area so inspiring for how boldly minimal and spacious it was, and I can really hear his concept of music coming through in the wonderful rework he’s done for ‘Norton’. It’s out now as part of the ‘UnFamiliar Sun’ rework record.

I wanted to share in full @saoirsejuno’s video for her beautiful rework of ‘Under a Familiar Sun’.

Inspired by Rachel Carson’s description of how the sun made the earth and a wave made the moon, Saoirse created a whole new response song ‘Roaring Flame of the Sun’.

The video features the hands of dear friends and family (Sara, Lily, Calum, Rick, Max, Shea, Orrin, Carlos, Ainhoa, Ben, Jess, Juno) and the surfer extraordinaire feet of Saoirse’s brother.

The lyrics are based on the awe-inspiring opening pages of ‘The Sea Around Us’ by Rachel L. Carson. They tell the tale of the creation of the earth, born from a solar flare from the sun which hurtled through space and then as the gases cooled became a sea of molten basalt and granite. The force of resonance from the solar tides equalling the earth’s natural oscillations created a wave so big that it was thrown into space where it was sent into orbit around the earth and became our moon.

The video is also inspired by Carson’s description and features the hands of dear friends and family (Sara, Lily, Calum, Rick, Max, Shea, Orrin, Carlos, Ainhoa, Ben, Jess, Juno) and the surfer extraordinaire feet of Saoirse’s brother.

I’m so happy to be sharing ‘Roaring Flame of The Sun’, a mesmeric rework of my song ‘Under a Familiar Sun’ created by my better half @saoirsejuno. This beautiful piece of ambient collage songwriting became complete when Saoirse augmented it with a video she created, she is blossoming into such a unique audio-visual artist and I couldn’t be prouder of her.

Here is what she wrote about the inspiration behind the song:

The lyrics are based on the awe-inspiring opening pages of ‘The Sea Around Us’ by Rachel L. Carson. They tell the tale of the creation of the earth, born from a solar flare from the sun which hurtled through space and then as the gases cooled became a sea of molten basalt and granite. The force of resonance from the solar tides equalling the earth’s natural oscillations created a wave so big that it was thrown into space where it was sent into orbit around the earth and became our moon.

The video is also inspired by Carson’s description and features the hands of dear friends and family (Sara, Lily, Calum, Rick, Max, Shea, Orrin, Carlos, Ainhoa, Ben, Jess, Juno) and the surfer extraordinaire feet of Saoirse’s brother.
