🗓Zondag 17 mei vanaf 13:00 uur
📍BAK | Pauwstraat 13A

𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 (@iliadacharalambous with @hetrodekeukentje ) in collaboration with @riseup4rojava.netherlands warmly invites you for a filmscreening of 𝙂𝙪𝙡î𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣, 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙍𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙨 – a documentary film by @zayneakyol which sheds light on the lives of Kurdish women fighters who are collectively fighting for a revolutionary ideal.

The film, produced in 2016 when the battle against ISIS was peaking in the Kurdish territories of Iraq and Syria, follows the women guerillas while training and defending the territories, all while embodying a revolutionary ideal advocating female empowerment. As filmmaker Zaynê Akyol follows their highly regimented lives, seasoned fighters like Rojen and Sozdar openly share with us their most intimate thoughts and dreams.

Amid rocky mountains and arid deserts, they are the future of a people and confidently serve the ideal to which they have dedicated their lives. Offering a window into this largely unknown world, the film also exposes the hidden face of this highly mediatized war: the female, feminist face of a revolutionary group united by a common vision of freedom.

As in today’s political climate the situation in Kurdish territories remains critical, we invite you to join us for a collective reading prior to the film screening that can aid us in understanding the politicized culture that keeps the Rojava revolution alive.

Het Rode Keukentje will cook a delicious dinner of dolma with pomegranate for us all, part of our fundraising efforts to support the Kurdish Red Cresent

Basecamp runs on a lot of love and little money, please consider donating for your participation, we suggest something in between €3-8

May 28th// All welcome to the third Iteration of ‘Still Called Palestine’ Lecture Series with Siggie Vertommen.

Israel is widely recognized and branded for its strikingly “pronatalist” approach to assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs), including in vitro fertilisation, egg donation, surrogacy, and prenatal/preimplantation genetic testing. Critical scholarship, however, has debunked this self-proclaimed pronatalism as highly selective, arguing that it is mostly geared toward increasing birth rates among Jewish Israeli families while casting Palestinians as a “demographic threat”. In my previous work, I developed the concept of fertility frontiers to analyse how ARTs function as both a demographic and a commodity frontier within Zionism’s century-long, ongoing project of settler colonialism and racial capitalism in Israel/Palestine. While assisting in the consolidation of a demographically Jewish state at the expense of Palestinian life, reproductive technologies have simultaneously co-produced a thriving (trans)national fertility industry that relies on the “cheap” reproductive labour of egg cell providers, surrogates, (grand)parents. In this presentation, I want to explore whether and how this “old” fertility frontier has taken a qualitatively “new” reproductive turn since the Gaza genocide. Focusing on two “reproductive technologies”—posthumous sperm retrieval of Israeli soldiers and the AI-powered “Where is Daddy” system to target Palestinian militants at home—I argue that it is crucial to introduce a reproductive lens to understand processes of accumulation, elimination and resistance in Israel/Palestine.

Siggie Vertommen works as a lecturer and researcher in gender studies at the University of Amsterdam and Ghent University. Her research grapples with the global politics of assisted reproduction in various locations, including Israel/Palestine, Georgia and Belgium.

World Refugee Day is around the corner - and there is a lot to discuss, especially when it comes to the EU Migration Pact. Discussions often miss how the implementation of the Pact will impact migrant and refugee women - this is exactly what we aim to counter with our next event.

✨ We’re super excited to be introducing: the next and last round of Facilitators ✨

Meet the facilitators of the workshop ‘Narrative Change Around Harmful Migration Narratives & Resistance Tactics’ - a participatory session led by Clara Saliba, @apei_creativestudio from NWC and Alejandro Navarrete from @bakbasecamp basecamp.

This participatory session combines 🎨 storytelling, art & resistance tactics 📢💖 and focuses on how migrant and refugee women can reclaim their narratives. Recognizing that migrant and refugee women are the most powerful narrators of their own stories, participants will learn practical strategies for amplifying their voices.

Combined with a participatory session, participants will reflect on building resistance tactics against harmful migration policies and far-right ideologies, closing with a session on how to collectively show solidarity.

➡️Swipe to learn more about Clara, Alejandro and their workshop!

📆 27th May, 12.30- 18.00 - BAK Basecamp Utrecht 📍
Don’t miss out, secure your place and register through the link in our bio! 🔗

This event is organised as part of New Women Connectors’ W-Star project. The project is funded by the European Union. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯.𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗖 𝗮.𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗧 𝗸.𝗜𝗧𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻-𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 invite you to the third of their series of Open Kitchen TakeOvers, called: Multilingual Recipes; kitchen-ing based project series. The performative gathering Will This Land Hold Us? is inspired by rituals and humming practices from Southwest China and Southern Iran. Changli and Fatemeh use the body as an image, and memories of food as a language to connect with their “migrant bodies”.

The performance explores bodily forms of expression that challenge the confines of language. Together, we invite each other and the audience to use rice and humming for ritual as a way of communicating and connecting our memories and the lands. Can “hum” and “food” be a language to trace the unspoken memories which had impacted us? How can we root ourselves in unfamiliar soil, and how can collective presence become a form of healing? Will this land hold us back when we are standing on it and performing rituals from another land? This performative gathering is both a dialogue and a hum, a cross-cultural collaboration that does not rely on a single language, and an ongoing search for a sense of belonging. We try to hold each other while trying to connect with the land around us.

𝘼𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙪𝙢 𝘿𝙪𝙤
The Hum duo consists of Changli Cui Luo and Fatemeh Asiri both based in Utrecht. Together, through their duo they work with performative languages to connect with their “migrant bodies”. Hum to them is not simply a sound, but that subtle vibration that bridges bodies, memories, and geographies. For Changli and Fatemeh, hum embodies a state of becoming, an ongoing attunement to the frequencies of lived experience, the voices that have been silenced, and the stories and memories that persist in movement.

Many thanks to our study session cohost @mayasolidarity, Assembling in Resistance and @iliadacharalambous, @hetrodekeukentje and filmmakers @aylinkuryel, @firatyucels and Deniz Buga for allowing us to share about the massacre of 19 Filipinos in Toboso, Negros Occidental, before the screening of “Class Outside” this past Wednesday at @bakbasecamp.

Prior to the film screening we held a reading on JMS’ 2021 article, “Fascism: Origin, Development and Abolition” which highlighted the essential class character of fascism as the open terror of the bourgeoisie. It can be seen in both the state terror of the Armed Forces of the Philippines ruthlessly gunning down Filipinos serving rural communities in Philippine countryside, and in the brutality of the Dutch police beating students for standing against the Zionist occupation of Palestine and demanding an end to their universities’ complicity with the genocide in Gaza.

The escalation of fascist violence globally underscores the urgency of building broad international anti-imperialist and anti-fascist unity among all peoples’ movements and liberation struggles. In our movements for justice, democracy, and genuine peace, we can be stronger together against the imperialist enemy that tries to divide us. Justice for the Toboso 19, and justice for all the victims of US imperialism worldwide!

Join us for our book launch of our first publication, a selection of JMS’ writings on fascism, printed to commemorate our one-year anniversary.

World Refugee Day is around the corner - and there is a lot to discuss, especially when it comes to the EU Migration Pact. However, what’s often not discussed is how it will impact migrant and refugee women ‼️

This is why we’re hosting an event on the 27th of May at @bakbasecamp: to come together and examine the Pact from a feminist lens.

✨ We’re super excited to be introducing: the Facilitators ✨

Today, meet Sandra Alloush, @sandra.alloush international award-winning Syrian refugee journalist and documentary filmmaker, as well as human-rights defender.

Her workshop, ‘Unpacking the EU Migration Pact: What does the Pact mean for migrant and refugee women?’ will delve into the Pact's gendered dimensions, focusing on implications for migrant and refugee women.

➡️Swipe to learn more about Sandra and her workshop!

📆 27th May, 12.30- 18.00 - BAK Basecamp Utrecht 📍
Don’t miss out, secure your place and register through the link in our bio! 🔗

Stay tuned for info on the other facilitators and workshop!

This event is organised as part of New Women Connectors’ W-Star project. The project is funded by the European Union. View Instagram Stories in Secret

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
