GIG FOR GAZA: Saturday December 6, KEPK, 2-8pm. All proceeds to UNICEF’s Children of Gaza Crisis Appeal.

I’ve been re-learning two movements from ‘Mothers’ Suite, Sweet Mothers’ by Thomas Green to play with violinist Camille Barry on Saturday and have found it quite an emotional process. This piece was composed to tell the story of motherhood from the birth of a child until they are young adults and was very meaningful for me at the time it was recorded because i had come to the tail end of that journey with our two boys.

Playing it again a few years later, in the midst of a genocide where mothers don’t have a chance to see their children grow up and so many children are orphaned, it’s taken on another meaning. The fourth movement is about the kind of eternal, all-consuming love that a mother has for her child. This experience is universal, and mothers and children in Gaza should be able to live and grow without the threat of death, injury and trauma.

We hope you’ll come and support all our musicians on Saturday, and join in solidarity as we raise funds for children in Gaza. Ticket link in bio.
