Hey!

After conducting that choir thing with @samsmith on @nbcsnl in 2023, I really thought there’d be some more momentum.

After a year of hustling over other projects, in walks the wonderful @fritzmyers with another opportunity: conduct a choral scene in a new movie starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor, with music by my heroes @samamidon and his genius father @peteramidon.

I asked the 12 best singers in New York City to join me in this project. Unfortunately, none of them were available. 😜 Instead, I had a dream team in @nathanfletchermusic, @tomasgotchi, @cshotwell, @brianjeffersnyc, @naterayhodgson, @eridanwwins, @zak.fletcher.92, @benhowbari, @jacobkhalilmusic, @angelabassethound, and @beardstopher.

Paul Mescal was extraordinarily nice, he smoked two (2) cigarettes with me, and the movie got a 9 minute standing ovation at the @festivaldecannes this week.

Here’s our ensemble in costume + a little clip from rehearsal in the basement of @oursaviournyc

I hope you’ll consider tuning into @nbcsnl on 21 January, as I’m appearing with @samsmith as we debut the title track from their new record, GLORIA.

Scored for a cappella choir (28 voices) and Sam, I’ll be conducting from off camera. Many of my dearest friends and colleagues will be in the ensemble, and this is a landmark achievement for me in my career. Thank you to all the music teachers and choral directors that prepared me for this gig.

I’ll be sharing tidbits from the rehearsal process, and I hope you’ll join us for this exciting moment for classical music on network television. @plazadeaubrey hosts.

Buck, Fritz, and I drove up to Kingston to present our organ duo at the soon-to-be legendary TEMPO. This brand new/very old venue must be experienced to appreciate it, and I encourage every artist and music lover I know to seek sounds inside it. They were so kind and generous with us, we left with full hearts and only had to walk a block away to stay at the fantastic Church des Artistes, where Buck found a piano and read whatever was on the piano. They have a cat named Fritz. We have a manager named Fritz. They united. We saw @samcohenmanimal and @shawncarney and took a selfie. We went to Tubbys and celebrated. We can’t wait to reunite with Tom and the team and do it again. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Arthouse2B (@arthouse2b), a multidisciplinary group of artists cultivating Catholic arts renewal in NYC, celebrates their annual Mass for Artists Friday evening at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich Village.

Our Saviour & Sacred Hearts is represented by our Director of Music Buck McDaniel, who will present some of his own compositions and share in musical direction of the liturgy.

Following the Mass, a reception celebrates the opening of FEAST, a gallery exhibition of visual and written art contemplating the elements of celebration: generosity, hospitality, joy, creativity, and freedom.

Please consider attending this ministry to the arts as part of your weekend devotions and festivities.

Friday, 24 April

The great thing about the TEMPO Concert Hall is that it can be tuned according to the artist's specifications.

Stuart Bogie and Buck McDaniel asked for a brighter sounding space so we pulled back the curtains and turned the panels around for them.

They will appear in concert tonight at 8:00. Tickets are still available and you can get them at the door. Don't miss this very special improvisatory weaving of clarinet and organ.

A centerpiece of the TEMPO Concert Hall is the fully functional 1907 Emmons Howard tracker pipe organ, originally installed in the historic Trinity Methodist Church at 29 Wurts Street in Kingston.

Preserved within the venue’s landmark architecture, the instrument gives performers and audiences a rare opportunity to experience the sound and touch of an original early-20th-century tracker organ in an intimate acoustic setting.

This instrument is truly a marvel of mechanical engineering and musical instrument design and is completely analogue, meaning no electronics save for the electric blower.

In fact, you could think of it as a giant accordion, (with pipes instead of reeds), because there's a large bellow that was filled by a church assistant known as a calcant who would use levers to pump air into the bellows in the room behind the console.

The TEMPO organ will be featured on Thursday, April 23 with a live concert by organist Buck McDaniel in an improvised concert with Stuart Bogie on clarinet.

Organist Buck McDaniel's work has been heard on Saturday Night Live, BBC Radio 3, and at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Clarinetist and composer Stuart Bogie has played on hundreds of albums — from Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem to Run the Jewels, Florence and the Machine, and Zach Bryan.

Together, their acclaimed duo project November Variations was called "authentic and experimental" by Relix.

Don't miss this rare chance to hear two of NYC's most distinctive musical voices perform together — live, in Kingston, on our historic 1907 tracker organ.
