Sometimes when I’d get home with my dad at night he’d stop at the steps of our house. Before walking in, he’d crane his neck skyward and nod vigorously, peering at the stars. He seemed to be communing with something, someone. I’d stand there quietly like I was witnessing him pray. Once I broke the silence by asking what he was doing and he gave me an answer that he’d given me at other times when I’d ask about other mysterious behavior: “I’ll tell you when you’re older.” He never did.

Winston wrote the beautiful string arrangements played by @zoshazosha and @kristen.drymala. It was mixed by @marketetcetera and mastered by @_not_person_.

On May 6th, this fine group of artists will assemble for an evening of artisanal songcraft at @night_club_101 , and it also happens to be the NYC release show for Many Disappeared, Thin Lear’s sophomore album. For my folks in NY and NJ, I’m so excited to bring you the full-band live version of this upcoming record, and feel like we’re cooking up something really special for the evening.
And this bill is bonkers.
@theadamlytle ‘s latest record, Altars, is a gem of dark, striking sonics and lyrics, bringing to mind artists like Nick Cave, Scott Walker, and Leonard Cohen. And he’s got a glorious nylon string sound.
@ciwk , beyond being the bassist in Office Culture, released one of my favorite albums of last year, A Hat Upon The Bed, which is the most poignant musical meditation on loss I’ve heard in a long while.
And @damonisaacsmith writes stunning, inventive chord progressions and melodies, including the recent single “Pelican Sky,” all delivered with some pretty virtuoso piano playing, if you’ve ever watched him live. And his covers are second to none, as anyone who’s seen him here on IG can attest.
