Meet Laura Marie Halvorsen, poet and novelist. One of the four characters at the heart of COFFEE DATE, played by @stephaniechloehepner.

Laura's obsession with Gertrude Stein, the woman who built the room that made the Lost Generation possible and was somehow forgotten by history, is central to who she is. It's also central to who she's becoming.

Every prop tells a story. This one tells several.

Our production designer @elizabethmaealan designed The Saturday Salon cover jacket: the portrait of Stein is by Pablo Picasso, but the rest is all Elizabeth.

The book plays a small, but important role in the play and it couldn't just be a mention, it had to be real.

"She built the room. It's time she got the credit."

This cover had to be designed by a woman. It was a small decision, but a necessary one. We're grateful Elizabeth understood that need and delivered such a stunning design.

One more fun fact - Laura's back cover bio is a mix of fiction and Stephanie's real life story, a blending of worlds that helps personalize it for the actor.

Hey y’all it’s been a minute! To be honest I feel like it’s been a minute so often lately that maybe I should just stop calling attention to it haha. Anyway, something we do a lot of at BirdBot that we definitely don’t talk enough about is poster and collateral design for film and theatre. And sometimes new partnerships are created in fun, unexpected ways!

Elizabeth got the gig for this poster by producing (and creating all the art for) the first annual @lionheartfestivalla which had a short run in August at @movingartstheatre - the Moving Arts team loved the work Elizabeth created for her passion project and commissioned her to design for two of their upcoming productions! A real win for “do what you love” and people will recognize you for it.

For all you theatre people, a little bit about Moving Arts & MADlab:

The award winning theater company Moving Arts is dedicated to the creation, promotion and production of original works by Los Angeles artists.Founded by Lee Wochner and Julie Briggs in 1992, Moving Arts has produced many world, national, West Coast and Los Angeles premieres.Moving Arts began as a 22-seat venue in the Silver Lake area and quickly grew to become a resident artist company that includes actors, directors, producers, designers, and playwrights.

The mission of Moving Arts’s MADLab is to foster new and producible scripts by creating a unique environment of support and collaboration with professional Los Angeles playwrights, dramaturges, directors, and actors. Moving Arts is paving the way for MADlab to become the most well respected and highly competitive new play development program in Los Angeles. MADlab is a unique 9 month program that focuses on the development of new plays from the idea up.

Anyway, something we do a lot of at BirdBot that we definitely don’t talk enough about is poster and collateral design for film and theatre. And sometimes new partnerships are created in fun, unexpected ways!

Elizabeth got the gig for this poster by producing (and creating all the art for) the first annual @lionheartfestivalla which had a short run in August at @movingartstheatre - the Moving Arts team loved the work Elizabeth created for her passion project and commissioned her to design for two of their upcoming productions! A real win for “do what you love” and people will recognize you for it.
