A bit about Erin:

Drawing comparisons to such icons as Nina Simone and Carole King, pianist/songwriter/producer, Erin Costelo reminds us of how voices can be iconic and how albums can be the soundtrack to our lives. She has shared the stage with such notable artists as Mavis Staples, Dr. John, Boz Scaggs and recently performed with Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble Band

A triple threat, Erin has numerous awards to her credit. Her records have received critical acclaim and extensive airplay in Canada, the US and Europe.
Erin has produced and arranged music for Juno winners Käia Kater and Maia Davies. She recently produced the 17 track, critically acclaimed record 1783 by Aquakultre.

Daniel Perry Sampson was my great-great-grandfather. He was wrongfully convicted of murder and executed in 1935. His story was told to me by my grandmother Carolyn Sampson, who always recognized that there was something fishy, something not right about what happened to her grandfather. I got on that research 90 years later, and she was right, his case was a miscarriage of justice. The song is written from his perspective, in his final moments before being hanged at the Halifax courthouse. A collaboration between @2btheatre and Myself facilitated the energy to write this song.

What an incredible way to kick off our “Small Of My Heart” songwriters series. Erin Costelo, Catherine MacLellan, Lisa MacIsaac and Kristen Martell played to enthusiastic crowd that sang their hearts out when asked, and laughed at all of their jokes. (Thankfully!) Here’s a wee look into a bit of how the evening went. Thank you Louis and everyone at the Folk Harbour Society. And also a huge thanks to the talented women who made this night so special.

Next up is Truro on Sunday, April 21st at the First United Church. Artists performing are Heather Rankin, Erin Costelo and your host once again, Lisa MacIsaac.

Today (and everyday) feels like a good time to celebrate women and gender diverse artists. When deciding to start the “Small Of My Heart” songwriters series, I knew that I would be overwhelmed by the depth of talent that I am surrounded by and could call on to share in this movement. It is a gift to be on stage with each of them. Here are the first 6 artists that will be joining me on stage in April and May in Nova Scotia. I’m also including my good friend and bandmate in Madison Violet, Brenley MacEachern, as she has been on my left hand side for nearly 25 years and I am forever thankful.
