An excerpt from my piece Grief Canyon @whole.festival 2024. Created for @wakinglife.pt

This piece is community specific and was created in response to the queer community members we lost that year. Little did I know I’d be taking notes from my past self to traverse this fresh grief. Life is funny that way, perpetual cycles, rituals of loving and losing.

@whoreofchaos also performed on that same stage, same day. I remember they arrived like a whirlwind (late as always), their lipstick freshly applied and charmingly askew. They raked the stage with their words , aloof, charismatic , disheveled. I was upset they had missed my piece, I was relieved because I was certain they would find it corny (they both loved and disdained my sincerity).

DESCENT is a live performance where flesh, sound, and silence remembers what logic forgot. A performer undresses the myths they inherited. A cellist mourns. - @ivanmarching and I hosted the first ever public Lip Sync for your Waking Life and it was an absolute hit. The joy of welcoming audience members onto the stage to live their fantasy and to honor and witness the crew who built the festival take the stage with some boy band REALNESS. By the end there wasn’t a dry eye or panty to be found. I’m still reeling from the closing number “believe” by Cher where everyone climbed onto stage and we nearly capsized the catwalk.

-two durational performances with the incredible @gigif_m who wove a psychedelic 8 hour journey for all of us. I went from demon succubus spitting wine in to the audiences mouth to butoh creature pouring out the blood and calling in the sun. It was my first time in almost 8 years doing butoh at a festival and I had forgotten how much I love it.
