josh brainin prints, now avaiable online 💻

To accompany his solo exhibition 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, brainin has produced an additional 7 digital collages from his larger body of work, in a limited-edition run of 10 prints each (70 total).

To contextualize and document the prints, brainin staged stylized vignettes slipping between house party, hangout, and intimate encounter. At times echoing the wandering, technicolor drift of youth in Millennium Mambo (2001), he was inspired by the dreamy, slightly grit-edged, melancholic register reminiscent of coming-of-age cinema. Working with blown-out color, inversion, and dense layering, josh draws from the debris of the internet to create his prints - using desktop wallpapers, pirated film stills, memes, and the afterlives of child stardom as emotional residue made visual. Extending his experiments into digital culture and imaging, these prints frame the screen as this generation’s primary site of self-becoming.

The prints are avaiable for purchase during the run time of the exhibition.

All prints are 11x17, inkjet on cotton rag

•Free gallery pick up
•Shipping avaiable (specify on check out)

𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 is curated by Youssef Boucetta and will be on view until June 6. Always open by appointment. The gallery will be open this week Thursday 5/21 from 1-5PM, but closed Friday 5/22 - Saturday 5/23

Full exhibition documentation of 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 and exhibition text written by Youssef Boucetta (@youssef.boucetta) is now online 🔗 link in bio

“At the center of the exhibition is 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥² (2026), a two-channel CRT installation composed of stacked televisions facing opposite directions (referencing a retrofuturist version of Janus, the Greek god of transitions, passageways and time). Filmed with an iPhone in brainin’s childhood bathroom, the artist recites a fractured mantra “I am a Black man, I am a White man, Am I doing it right?” echoing the visceral malaise of Bruce Nauman’s installation, 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘛𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 (1987). Evoking Adrian Piper’s investigations into racial ambiguity and the complexities of blackness, 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥² (2026) shows racial and gender identity as a recursive performance caught between self-affirmation and external validation. The installation’s curtains function as a skin, attempting to contain a scattered, multidirectional cry while allowing only faint traces of its sonic residue to pass through. They establish a quarantined processing zone - an interior space where identity is rehearsed, fractured, and reassembled. Like any skin, however, the membrane remains permeable, allowing materials, sounds, and gaze to cross its threshold in both directions.”

Thank you to everyone who was able to make it to the opening of 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 by josh brainin, curated by Youssef Boucetta

This evening celebrated both the opening of josh brainin’s debut solo exhibition and Tala’s second birthday - we are so grateful to our friends, collaborators, and families for the endless support in making these culminating moments possible; we are gifted with the reminder that, especially now, showing up for each other is all the more imperative.

And thank you @hypeart for the continued attention to 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, recently featured in their ‘Must See Shows During EXPO Chicago 2026.’ We are also eternally grateful to @dreamcaketestkitchen creating our ever special annual Tala birthday cake, this year inspired by a photo of the stars in the Philippines night sky taken from Bagac Beach, Bataan.

Visit the gallery during open hours, Thursday - Saturday 1-6PM and always open by appointment (by DM or e-mail info@talachicago.com)

Thank you @frieze and @chicagoreader for featuring 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 at Tala in this year’s EXPO top picks

We’re especially grateful for the graceful, thoughtful words of @camillegbacon (Frieze) and @booksnotboyz (The Chicago Reader), who reflect on josh brainin’s work as “calling upon us to retrace the artist’s own faltering footsteps away from the pursuit of a unified identity” and as “an exploration of identity formation mediated through the ubiquity of digital technology,” respectively.

𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 opens this Friday, April 10, 6-9PM and marks the gallery’s second year around the sun - join us to celebrate with cake by @dreamcaketestkitchen. We are also in gratitude to the incredible team that made the exhibition’s central installation, 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘥² possible.

To accompany the exhibition, brainin has produced an additional seven digital collages from his larger body of work, released as a limited edition of 10 prints (70 total). Extending the artist’s experiments into digital culture and image-making, the prints will be available beginning on opening night and only for the duration of the exhibition (April 10 – June 6, 2026).

All prints will be 11 × 17 inches, inkjet printed on cotton rag, edition 1/10.

𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 is the first solo exhibition by filmmaker and artist josh brainin. The exhibition stages an intimacy shaped through digital language, where the self can slip, scatter, and reassemble. Utilizing blown-out color, inversion, and dense layering, brainin’s collages draw from the visual debris of the internet - desktop wallpapers, pirated film stills, memes, and the afterlives of child stardom - as generative emotional residue.

Within the same dreamy, though edged with grit, melancholic register that defines much of coming-of-age cinema - at times echoing the wandering, technicolor drift of youth in films like Millennium Mambo (2001) - the work frames the screen as this generation’s primary site of self becoming. Foregrounding his interest in digital tools as emotional prosthetics, the works become sites of intimate externalization, both of personal and collective memory. Here, identity emerges not as a fixed condition, but as an ongoing negotiation—one that holds both disorientation and possibility.

Opening on Friday, April 10, 6–9 PM. The exhibition marks Tala’s second birthday.

Tala is thrilled to announce 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, the first solo exhibition by filmmaker and artist josh brainin, curated by Youssef Boucetta, opening Friday April 10, 6-9PM

𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 stages an intimacy shaped through digital language, where the self can slip, scatter, and reassemble. As such, brainin urges us to understand identity not as a fixed condition but as a space of ongoing negotiation, one that holds both disorientation and possibility.

The exhibition is a continued exploration into the mechanisms by which (un)stable selfhood is constituted. Moving away from the artist’s background in video and film, this exhibition showcases brainin’s latest experimentations into physical printmaking techniques and sculptural installations. The exhibition is split into two components: a 2-channel video installation and a series of digital collages that stage the uncanny space where the now-all-too-familiar repertoire of cellphone symbology dissolves into landscapes between the real and the virtual. Avoiding the trap of falling into either techno-pessimism or techno-optimism, brainin uses the visual language of digital user interfaces to render age-old questions of subject formation, morality and individuality, at times verging on the spiritual.

To accompany the exhibition, brainin has produced an additional 7 digital collages from his larger body of work, in a limited-edition run of 10 prints each (70 total). Extending the artist’s experiments into digital culture and imaging, the prints will be available beginning on opening night.

The opening reception for 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 coincides with @expochicago and marks the gallery’s second birthday. Join us at 7:30PM to blow candles on a cake by @dreamcaketestkitchen and celebrate two years of Tala.

📍 Opening Reception: Friday 4/10, 6-9PM
On view through Jun 6, 2026
Cake cutting at 7:30PM

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
