Do you have socks with holes, a moth-eaten sweater, or a shirt with stains or tears that need to be patched?

Join us at Repair Garden, a hands-on mending workshop where you can repair well-loved clothing and fabric items using simple hand-sewing techniques. Tools, materials, and guidance will be provided.

Repair Garden was founded by button designer Yuuka Miyazono, garment repair specialist Shoko Fukushima, and quiltmaker Kione Kochi. For this special session at Sooki Studio, Kione will be visiting us from Japan to lead a session on repairing knit and woven items using fabric scraps, needles, yarn, and thread.

The event will begin with a short artist talk and a demo of basic techniques for darning knits and patching woven fabrics. After that, the time is open for you to work on your own repairs in a relaxed, shared setting.

Repair Garden is about learning together and sharing skills. Basic tools and supplies are provided to minimize any obstacles to learn how to mend by hand. Repairing is not just about restoring an object’s original function - it can also be a way to add embellishments and imbue garments and everyday objects with new value.

Kione graduated from Bennington College in 2015 with a focus in visual arts and garment construction. In 2012, she founded Kione’s, a handmade fabric goods brand where she makes and sells one-of-a-kind textile works including quilted blankets, bags and garments. Using the language of patchwork quilts, she creates improvisational compositions, piecing together forms to capture color moments. She is currently based in Tokyo.

In Co-Curation with MELLOW TALK,「Ambiguously In Between」は、HOME/WORK VILLAGEおよび MIDORI.so Ikejiriギャラリーの正式オープンを記念する展覧会となります。本展では、クラフトとアート、機能と表現、オブジェクトと装飾のあいだをやわらかく揺れ動く作品が集います。

かつて中学校の校舎だった HOME/WORK VILLAGE は、創造性とコミュニティが育まれるコラボレーションの場へと生まれ変わりました。展示される作品と同様に、この空間は実験や変化、発見が起こる「ひらかれた場」として存在しています。

展覧会はその精神を映し出すものです──遊び心と内省を備えた展示は、中学時代の「最良のかたち」を思わせます。すなわち、好奇心、挑戦、そして成長の時間。伝統的な技法と実験的な素材を用いた作品群は、私たちがどのようにモノや空間と関係を築いているのか、改めて問いかけてきます。

Once a vocational junior high school for craft-making, HOMEWORK/Village is now a collaborative space where creativity and community thrive. Like the works it hosts, the site embraces openness—a setting for experimentation, transformation, and discovery. The exhibition reflects this spirit: playful and reflective, much like the junior high years at their best—a time of curiosity, risk-taking, and growth. Through traditional and experimental practices, the works invite us to rethink how we perceive and relate to the objects and spaces around us.

展覧会はその精神を映し出すものです──遊び心と内省を備えた展示は、中学時代の「最良のかたち」を思わせます。すなわち、好奇心、挑戦、そして成長の時間。伝統的な技法と実験的な素材を用いた作品群は、私たちがどのようにモノや空間と関係を築いているのか、改めて問いかけてきます。

In Co-Curation with MELLOW TALK, “Ambiguously In Between” will mark the official opening of MIDORI.so Ikejiri Gallery in HOME/WORK VILLAGE. The exhibit gathers works that gently sway between craft and art, function and expression, object and ornament.
Once a vocational junior high school for craft-making, HOMEWORK/Village is now a collaborative space where creativity and community thrive. Like the works it hosts, the site embraces openness—a setting for experimentation, transformation, and discovery. The exhibition reflects this spirit: playful and reflective, much like the junior high years at their best—a time of curiosity, risk-taking, and growth. Through traditional and experimental practices, the works invite us to rethink how we perceive and relate to the objects and spaces around us.
