Celebrated the latest from the unofficial mayor of Rome, @katieparla , with aperitivo and chats at my home away from home, the @garibaldinasociety . Negronis were had, anchovies consumed, books were signed. Bravo! 🍝🇮🇹❤️

[EXCEPTIONALLY SAPPY MARATHON MEDITATION INCOMING.]
They say a picture’s worth a thousand words, but let me lay a few more on this one. Months before the Boston Marathon, I made the decision to take an extended break from running - long running, anyway - as soon as I crossed that finish line. After six marathons in four years, my body, my mind, and my calendar had been screaming for me to hit pause. Running at that level has done so much good for my mental health, but it has also taken its toll, tapping into some old demons and adding an unnecessary layer of stress and “have to” to my life that began to feel problematic. Fewer “have to’s,” more “want to’s.” That’s the idea.
But first, Boston. To even qualify was beyond anything I could have imagined when I started running a few years ago. The race was to be my grand finale — or as a friend said, “a semi-colon” —in my running career. But my body had other plans; a muscle in my hip suffered a partial tear in February and I spent the last few months being held together with regular PT and prescription anti-inflammatories. For a while I wasn’t sure if I’d even get to run. Of course, now this thing I had been desperate to be done with was the one thing I desperately wanted.
What you see here in this picture is the relief, gratitude, and joy that came from crossing the finish line of a race I wasn’t sure I’d ever run, or even wanted to begin with. It represents the pride of diving head first into a sport I’d never once considered before 40 and reaching itspinnacle a few years later. It’s the transformative power of calling oneself an athlete and actually believing it.
Tell ya what, I don’t recommend spending three days immersed in the epicenter of running enthusiasm right before you’re about to quit. I left Boston more emotionally connected to this sport than I’ve maybe ever felt. So, I’m not quitting; I’m just…stepping back for a minute to find the joy in it all again. The goal now is to see running as a “want to,” not a “have to.” God knows we all have enough of those already.

Ok my turn I suppose: 2016 was the year I quit my job. It was the year I birthed my second child, won my second JBF Award, met my heroes, and cooked a lot. It was a year of simple soup at home and eating mindbending bowls at places like the OG @baroolosangeles and @sqirlla and @petittroisla . It was a year of quiet snuggles and big scary leaps and while I don’t think the year was perfect, it was one of my favorites. More snuggles and leaps in 2026 please. ♥️

Every bite of last night’s dinner made me mad. Mad that a restaurant this electric could be closing. Mad that each majestic dish was now singular, ethereal, fleeting. Mad that we maybe didn’t do enough to keep a place this inarguably great open just a little bit longer. And mad that just a few streets away people were being violently ripped away from their lives, their jobs, and their families. I’m mad at this version of the world we currently live in where @hereslookingatyoula can’t exist.
Luckily the @eater x @eater_la team was there to pull me out and quite literally lighten the mood (sooooo many fancy phone lights.) @lientigre and @jonathanwhitener 🪽, thank you for what you’ve given the city of LA these last nine years, and thank you for giving us all one more night to enjoy it.
HLAY forever ♥️

There are a couple things in my life that, if you wrote them down on paper, I’d say, “Thanks but never.” And yet, in spite of all logic, I love them. One is running, the other is Disneyland. I spent my whole Memorial Day weekend trying to indoctrinate my real-life pal @gailsimmonseats and her family of Disney first-timers into the DLand enthusiast society, and y’all, I think I did it.
There were a few firsts for me too, including eating hand rolls and grilled cheese at the actually-very-cool @packingdistrict , stumbling upon my new numero uno hotel option outside the Disney Industrial Complex (The Westin > Grand Californian, come at me), and getting stuck 15 feet off the ground for half an hour on a ride at DCA with all the kids, while Gail looked on in panic 😬. (I also got to live out my life dream of cutting the line for Peter Pan with a vested VIP guide 💅.) Would any of these new things have happened without @thrillist , @visitanaheim , and the kid-centric Imagenagency? Nope. Have I had my fill of Disneyland yet? Never.

Our event celebrating the release of HUNGER LIKE A THIRST with award-winning restaurant critic @besharodell and @lesleybs earlier this week was quietly electrifying for those of us who care about, work in, or simply enjoy the food media space. In a impressive room of food writers, authors, and editors, we learned much about Rodell’s trials and tribulations as one of the last (until very recently) anonymous critics, her undying love of Los Angeles, the importance of the alt-weekly, the surreal duality of living paycheck to paycheck while dining in some of the most luxurious restaurants in the world, and what lies ahead for the role of the restaurant critic in this age of digital and social media.
Such a compellingly honest and thoughtful conversation. Big thanks to everyone who came out to support.
HUNGRY LIKE A THIRST tells so much more of Rodell’s story - out of stock at the moment, but more copies on the way - stop by soon to get yours!

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
