This Saturday, May 9th, APLR is thrilled to welcome El Khat with support from Coconut Cake.
In 2019, El Khat began honing their sound in garages and warehouses. Experimenting with DIY, self-made instruments as an expression of a minimalist life philosophy while remaining loyal to traditional Yemeni percussive roots, the three-piece developed a unique Arabic-Yemeni style. Although their detachment from any nation or flag is a driving force behind the group, the heart of their music and heritage remains deeply rooted in Yemeni culture. The constant divisions created by war and migration have given rise to a reassembled identity, one that resonates strongly throughout El Khat’s music. With three albums behind them and a fourth to be released in 2026, El Khat continue to forge a sound that bridges past and present, keeping Yemeni culture alive while reimagining its future.
Coconut Cake is an ensemble dedicated to rumba music - chiming and reverberant guitars, syncopated bass, drums, and shakers all dancing together to create a bold, swinging and sophisticated rhythm. Led by guitarist/multi-instrumentalist/producer Michael Libramento, the group is known for their upbeat instrumental performances, inspired by Cuban son music, early rock ‘n’ roll, and legendary African dance bands of the 50s and 60s.
Join us for this incredible performance - tickets are available now.

Thursday music continues in full force on the patio at @zadiesmarket. The weather is beautiful, the nights are getting longer, and the vibe is dialed in.
We are stoked to welcome @caseydriessen for the first edition of his monthly "Wednesday Bazaar" residency at Zadie's this year. Casey will be joining us on the first Wednesday of each month through October to bring his singular fiddle playing and a bevy of effects pedals to entertain us in Marshall on the banks of the French Broad. The Wednesday Bazaar is a musical residency where fiddle loops, wild grooves, sonic oddities, and vibrant rhythms mix together in a swirl of color and sound. He'll be taking us, musically, from Marshall to outer space and back, with plenty of detours along the way. No two nights are alike... Come ready to trade the ordinary for a carnival of the unexpected.
This Thursday we are joined by WNC musical institution Libro (@libramento). He leads @cococakenc, and can be seen playing all manner of instruments with all manner of ensembles around the region. Last year he joined us on the patio as part of @floatingaction and @dream_sitch. He also has toured the world with incredible artists of all different stripes like Bonny Light Horseman, Hiss Golden Messenger, Lizzy McAlpine, and many more. We're excited to see what kind of solo material he brings to Marshall Thursday.
We'll be back for more next week. Every Thursday (and sometimes more) with wonderful original live music, food, and drinks from 6-8pm, rain or shine. Never a cover, always a good time!

@natalie.jane.hill : her beautiful song “I Thought Love Meant” at the @ayurpranalisteningroom show the other night. with @twainband @floatingaction. A deep breath. Tremendously grateful. Thank you @alligayytor for being so thoughtful documenting and sharing it.

I don’t know if you know this, but in the world of broke, unsuccessful bands that not many people care about- there’s this PHENOMENON… whenever we attempt to record a live show, SOME kind of jinxy failure of equipment or communication or people ALWAYS happens somehow- & it never gets recorded. It’s Freaky!
I didn’t think Live albums were a thing anymore- but recently, a lot of people have been asking for a Live Floating Action album (this is true, i’m not doing that thing where bands possibly stretch the truth ‘so many people asked for this’😂).
Then we played at Eulogy 12/20/25, didn’t even ask or try for a recording, but the great sound engineer Jess Fox @storiesofastranger recorded the show, sent me the tracks, i mixed it onto cassette-
& now we have a Live album!Out today, streaming everywhere.Big thanks to Kyle @airloom.music for mastering it & getting it a’streaming! 🌸

Athens residency alert… I’m looking forward to playing music with my longtime friend and drummer @libramento at @hiddengemglobalhq on Thursdays in February. We will stretch out over two sets, drawing from our 25 years of musical connection and vast history of repertoire together, improvising and exploring arrangements from folk, jazz, and electronica idioms, as well as original themes. Will be 🔥
No cover, but donations encouraged. 21+
* Shane Parish solo on February 19.

Absolutely massive show at eulogy on Saturday Dec. 20th. COCONUT CAKE & FLOATING ACTION
we haven’t done one of these since - get this - *December 20th* 2013 - at the Mothlight (pour one out please)

On Sunday afternoon (12/21 2pm-5pm) I’ll be playing a show at @gardenpartyavl - my dear friend Tarleton’s shop in West Asheville, a very rad and very special place. With Citrus Dust (Libro and Seth duo)
Perfect spot to hang, pick up some goods. I will be doing just that.
Citrus Dust is Michael Libramento and Seth Kauffman -
Longtime comrades and collaborators, playing guitar and drums (with some other bits).
Expect improvisatory, sparce interpretations of folk, jazz, african and cuban tunes, gospel, original compositions, meditations on themes.

There’s a Coconut Cake set tonight (Sunday)
At the Grey Eagle
It’s a big benefit show for @homeward_bound_wnc
(helping people get housing etc)
There are other bands too
We’re playing at 8pm
It was 8:30 but now its 8
