We’re releasing a Digital Album!! 💿🎶
Last week, we spent an incredible few days in the recording studio at @tycerdd recording music for our upcoming digital album, ‘Gwlad y Gân’ ⛰️
We can’t wait to release more details about the music that will be on the album, but there is such a great variety of music, including a commission from @cameronbilesliddell , music from other incredible Welsh composers such as @huw.watkins plus other fantastic music depicting the Land of song.
None of this would have been possible without our wonderful recording engineer/producer, @james_clarkez , whose expertise and calmness in the studio was completely invaluable.
Another massive thank you to @tycerdd and Marchus Trust for your support in making this album possible, as well as @cerddcf for rehearsal space and the ever-generous @rebecca.selley for hosting and cooking us wonderful food!
Stay tuned for the full music low down!

We've been listening to 'Songs of Nature' by RPS Composer @cameronbilesliddell, featured on @quartetdraig's album Gwlad y Gân released last week on
@tycerdd's artist-led label, Sionci.
Cameron says: 'Songs of Nature is my second and currently largest chamber work to date. Using extracts of poetry as inspiration, the quartet takes the listener on a journey through different scenic pictures. From sparkling shoreline dances in the Scherzo to the delicate sheen of moonlight in the nocturne all the way to the dramatic pulsations of high-speed travel, this quartet showcases what a pioneering string group like Quartet Draig can do!'

Composer Spotlight: Cameron Biles-Liddell 🎼
We’re delighted to feature ‘Songs of Nature’ on our debut album, a work specially commissioned for us by @cameronbilesliddell 🎻
Cameron says:
“I’m extremely grateful for Quartet Draig for their championing and fearless playing of my work. Even from the initial chats about the project, I knew this commission was going to be special. Their enthusiasm and relentless energy was something I wanted to celebrate in my second string quartet. From Ben’s luscious viola solos, Jess and Elliot’s shredding in movement, to the punchy rhythms in Tabitha’s cello part, this quartet is for the players that make up this tenacious ensemble.”
It was an absolute joy to work and collaborate on this piece and bring Cameron’s music to life - we can’t wait for you to hear it in its entirety tomorrow!

“Inspiration, innovation and intimacy”
Our cellist, Tabitha Selley, sat down with Immy Hollins to talk all things Welsh music - from honouring its rich heritage to championing new voices and perspectives 🎻
For us, it’s keeping this music alive, reverent and evolving, while staying deeply connected to its roots - it’s why it was so important to us to include works by current Welsh composers, @huw.watkins and @cameronbilesliddell in our debut album, as well as reimaginings of traditional Welsh folk songs.
To read the full interview, head to the link in our bio 🏴 and to continue the conversation, come along to our launch concert where our fabulous panel will be expanding on this topic!
