I found these Keyshia Cole “Let it Go” doubles on a whim at @saltboxrecords and had to cop. More recently, I found this copy of Allure featuring LL Cool J, “No Question” from Saltbox for 2 bucks!

The universe dictated that the records had to be merged into one contiguous mix incorporating some vinyl DJing skills I’m always working on.Shoutout to Mtume.

Saturday session on the P bass, showing this #SireP5 some love. A few months ago, I swapped out my strings to flats and swapped out my pickup to a Fender Pure Vintage 63. Liking how it sounds so far 🧘🏻‍♀️

Playing along to the Erykah Badu’s “Didn’t Cha Know,” a hypnotic bassline with a sample from Tarika Blue’s “Dreamflower,” played by the great Pino Palladino on the Erykah track. It’s a fitting song to learn, given the upcoming anniversary of Mama’s Gun (and her recent show here in LA at the bowl).

Also fitting, given the Pino-esque P bass colorway 🎸

Saturday sessions feat. Marvin, D’Angelo, Janet, and G-Unit. Playing around with loops and samples turned into curating a little R&B crate and creating a whole vibe. Weekends are made for this.

Been a long time since I posted a vinyl routine, but I had some ingredients and cooked one up using “Synthetic Substitution” (@reservoirrecordings), “Ego Trippin’”(@mrbongoworldwide), and Big Honky Breaks (@djrevolution)

Added text to this one because I was ashamed of my dusty table/wanted to hide it (and the dust is still visible, don’t @ me 😭)

Rocked the Taula M4 rotary with some timeless cuts on wax, while of course, not missing any opportunities to play some dope samples, covers, and remixes. A few long transitions were also necessary 😌

A few bars to warm up for #thenammshow.

I’ve been a total bum at home, but I’m really grateful to be safe and to have these turntables back up and reconnected after taking everything down (out of an abundance of caution) after the evacuations in my area a few weeks ago.

These past few weeks (months, really) have been heavy, no doubt, but hope to see some familiar faces tomorrow, Jan 25th, at the @scratchlikeagirl showcase at @thenammshow. It’s at 12:30 PM PST at the Technics/Stokyo booth# 11515 - HALL A (Anaheim Convention Center) ✌🏽

NAMM is around the corner! In the midst of all the excitement of events and people coming in from out of town, I want to first and foremost express my support of our LA community and my gratitude for our firefighters and first responders, as LA nears the end of the second week of devastating wildfires. Things will never be the same here, and as we all slowly to begin to recover, process, and fully understand the ongoing magnitude of what’s happening, I first wanted to post some resources that might be helpful.
