This season I had the opportunity to cook for the Spring Bear hunting camp at Shepp Ranch in the Gospel Hump of Idaho. It was nothing short of fabulous. This is just a glimpse of some of the feasts & snacks I had the privilege of preparing for the hunters & Shepp Ranch crew.
Cooking for hunting camps is always a pleasure for me. It combines my love of seasonal local food, living off the land, being immersed in nature, and sharing breathtaking experiences with down to earth people.
Shepp Ranch managed to exceed my expectations of what a hunting camp can be. The crew at Shepp combines world class hospitality with secluded off - grid living. I am really so grateful to be a part of this team.

Might’ve taken the scenic route in our side-quest! Total of 25.3miles, 5,905 foot of elevation gain & 5,776 foot of downhill with 36 trees to either cut or crawl around, over, or through by any means possible! All critters trained by or at Straight Arrow Equine before this trip and I’m proud to say they all were absolute beasts- the embodiment of grit and heart to make this trip possible. This was the craziest hunt I’ve ever done. 7 months after breaking my tibia, fibula, and tearing my distal ligament in my ankle. This was my comeback hunt. We pushed it hard and did 42 miles in 4.5 days. We shot two bears, and missed a chance at a wolf. We did a jet boat drop camp with @sheppranch on the salmon river. The terrain is so rugged. Just steep and rocky. We were a week or two early, but still made it happen.
