@driveautox event 3, day 2 started off a bit soggy. I was in run group 4 and the track was still very damp, but improving. I managed a 45.0xx time on my 3rd lap which held me in 1st place in GTTX. By the time run group 1 was back up, the track surface was nearly dry and getting better, but right at the end of run group 2's session another blast of rain came through and soaked everything again, which meant more wet laps for us again. However, I was able to get some similar times to maintain a good average (all runs count in this series, so averages are important) and also held on to my 1st place time from the 1st session.

I typically refuse to race Slick in wet or rainy conditions due to inadequate traction and risk of crashing into a wall or barrier. But, since averages are important, I knew I had to at least make every lap to keep my times recorded. I gotta say, though, between the awesome grip surface at @ncmmsp, the well engineered TCI chassis and suspension, and the @bridgestone
RE71RZ tires, I was still able to get great acceleration and braking traction even in the soupy conditions!!

After lunch, the track conditions finally dried up just in time for the head to head shootouts. I had the highest average in GTT and GTTX so Iwas awarded 1st seed, a bye run pass for the first round of eliminations, and guaranteed a chance in the semifinals. I was able to maintain composure and worked my way through each round until the final, where I came out with the win for the shootout!This put me bringing home the triple trophies again for fastest in class for both days, and the shootout victory!

-86 Custom Deluxe Former AR DOT truck
-Rebuilt 305/NP440 OD 4 speed/3.42 gears
-new clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel
-Lowered with drop spindles/springs and flip kit~ still needs c-notch installed
-All new brake components front and rear
-new 225/70/15 front 5 yr old low mile 235/75/15 rear tires
-New 2.5" exhaust with Walker Turbo mufflers
-Perfect patina, some @thesweetpatina sauce would make it look great and preserve it.
-only rust is in driver's side cab corner (patch panel comes with truck)

The truck does need full interior, but it's a base model truck, so it can be kept simplistic.
The transmission has a bad synchro, and I intend to get it fixed (rebuilt) soon.

This truck rides and drives great. I just don't need it.

So the infield parking section of @nashvillesuperspeedway has a couple heavy dips that are unlikely felt at "parking lot" speeds, but under heavy acceleration and braking while autocrossing with @driveautox .....they're very noticeable! However, I wasn't really concerned as the @tci_engineering Pro-Touring chassis and @ridetechsuspension shocks absorbed it all very well. Other than a couple small issues with tire clearance (need deeper backspacing on the wheels) that were easily fixed, everything went great both days.

The funny thing about autocross is how things may not always look "fast" and dramatic from the outside, and sometimes, even looks boring, but from inside the car......well it's a different story! Videos alsocan't capture the feel of being thrown side to side in turns, the acceleration, and how well these things brake going into turns. If you haven't ridden in an autocross vehicle before I highly suggest going to events and getting rides. It's a blast!

Bringing home the hardware! Top time in GTT class on Saturday (moved to GTTX Pro class) Top time in GTTX for Sunday morning, then Head-to-Head shootout winner!

I also had Top spot in average times for rhe weekend. (Every lap counts format) This put me in 1st place seed for the shootout. I was able to advance in every round of the shootout until I was faced against @blackstonecustoms for the best 2 out of 3 finals. Don wasn't about to allow me and easy victory, either! 1st race I had lane choice and got a close victory, 2nd race we had to swap start lines. I made a slight goof up in one corner and gave up some time, and Don took advantage with the victory. Down to the 3rd and final race....I won the coin toss for lane choice. Both of us ran good clean laps, but I was able to keep the leading edge and pull out the final victory! Thanks for making it a great race, Don!

It feels great to see the changes I've made pay off! Slick is certainly a contender now, and hopefully I can start working on the "driver mods" to make it even better!

Absolutely stoked!!! After day 1 of @driveautox
East Event number 2, I'm not only fastest in GTT truck class, but also fastest truck of the day! This means I'll be moved into the GTT"X" Pro class tomorrow, and for future events!

I've never felt so comfortable behind the wheel as I did today. The @tci_engineering Pro-Touring chassis with @ridetechsuspension shocks and @bridgestone RE71RZ tires are keeping this beast planted and predictable, and the @wilwooddiscbrakes are maintaining the whoa for all the newfound "go"!

Before I get too sure of myself, though, I still have the course to run tomorrow (opposite direction) and the head-to-head shootout tomorrow afternoon. I've gotta stay cool and composed throughout the day tomorrow!

Today's @etr_scca event was the 1st event for me and Slick with the new transmission and new @bridgestone RE71RZ tires.....and it was a successful debut!
Nothing broke! 😆

I'll start with a transmission review. The gearing is perfect for the LS1 setup. The engine is actually able to deliver power to the tires. Engine braking before a turn helped the brakes slow the truck down better, and powering out of the turn is more instant to throttle input. The old 700R4 served me well, and I can't say anything bad, but the manual trans is certainly an upgrade.

The tires: Definitely an improvement over the Nankangs! Even on cold tires with little to no scrub in or heat cycle, feeling the grip was instantly noticeable! Now with a few scrub in laps, they should be even better for this coming weekend!

As for my driving, I didn't want to go "full send" on a fresh setup just yet. I've never driven a manual transmission in an autocross other than Mike's C10 at the Hunstville @driveautox event, so it's a learning curve of the footwork and gear changes. I mainly focused on just learning the truck's new combo and really didn't focus as much on my lap times. However, I ended up 3rd in class behind #TeamTCI member Dan Larson's 69 Camaro by a mere .8 second (previously 1.5-2 seconds behind) and 28th overall out of 103.

I'm very happy with the new setup and looking forward to seeing how it performs at future events!
