Belgian photographer Stig de Block adopts an approach that brings him as close as possible to his subjects. With the Leica Q3 43, his vision is instinctive, precise, and uncompromising.
Between Antwerp and Los Angeles, his work explores the concepts of identity, community, and urban culture.
"I often describe my practice as long walks because that is exactly what it is. I drive somewhere, start walking, and rarely have a shot list. I move by instinct. My work feels less like classical photography and more like graphic arrangements. Skewed horizons and slightly unsettling compositions result from navigating space intuitively. I use the camera in the same way, without overthinking and fully present. The image that appears is the one I intended in that moment. Whether it is good or bad is something I decide later."

EAST LOS was made in close collaboration with renowned author Luis J. Rodriguez, former Los Angeles Poet Laureate and defining voice within the Chicanx community. At the heart of this book lies his poem “THE EASTSIDE OF ALL EASTSIDES.”
A generous gift that became the foundation of my journey through East LA. Inspired by his words, I took long and short walks, had in-depth and short talks.
