“We’ve Always Been Here” - a film by Khevyn ‘BE’ Ibrahim that shares the experiences of their 6 person Ivorian family, growing up, living and working in London.

BE asked me to score the last section of the film and it was one of my favourite projects of 2024.

The music came together quite easily for me. Watching the edit, I felt that even if it had no music, it wouldn’t take away from the strength of storytelling. When you listen to BE’s parents and siblings share their memories, thoughts, hopes, and dreams, you really get an insight into their lives as you look at old photos and camcorder footage from their childhood. I was so touched by their accounts that I felt all I needed to do was lightly decorate the words that were being spoken.

We talked about the Kora being a principle element of the music so I decided to centre the score around this beautiful instrument. The vocals merely act as an ornament to its lilting melody.

Get a behind-the-scenes look at our first community-curated exhibition. Over the past few months, our amazing community curators have worked hard to bring this together, and we can't wait to share it with you.

All of the artworks exhibited are by artists with a deep connection to Lewisham in response to an open call. We were blown away by your submissions — so much that we’re staging the exhibition in TWO parts! This round features 22 pieces, with more to come in Spring 2025. Stay tuned! 👀✨

WAYWAAD are excited to announce that we’ll be curating an event for London Short Film Festival (LSFF) 2025, and we want to use this opportunity to celebrate, platform and generate space for Black Queer Voices and Visions!

Too often, our lives are minimised to reductive tropes. So instead of conceding to colonialist ideals, we want to showcase a series of short films that explore the multiplicity of Black Queer Experiences.

We want to see films that make us laugh, cry, shake nyash, feel nostalgic, imagine alternative futures, and more, and more, and more!!

📣WHO CAN APPLY?:

This Open Call is for Black + Mixed Black, London Based or Born Queers only! please do not apply if you are not of black/mixed black heritage.

📣IMPORTANT DETAILS:

-We’re looking for Short Films,
-NO LONGER than 20 MINUTES!
-Exploring the theme of ‘SPACE’.
