Pretty wild my solo show at the ODD Gallery @kiacyukon still made the cover of the Klondike Sun considering the ice break almost made Dawson flood and The Pit burned down the same week!

When I was a SOVA @yukonsova student, one of the first residency artists I witnessed at the Macaulay House was @ursula_johnson. We all got to visit her in her studio and witness her process weaving. We’re excited to welcome We See Stars Only At Night by Yukon artist Cole Pauls.

This immersive installation brings Pauls’ graphic novel off the page and onto the walls—80 hand-drawn pages transformed into a full gallery environment. Think layered collage, zip-a-tone textures, and repeating forms that turn the space into something you move through, not just look at.

Created without a fixed script, the work unfolds as a surreal exploration of Tahltan culture, storytelling, and connection to land—blending animals, regalia, harvesting practices, and lived knowledge.

This is storytelling at scale. A book, a space, a whole experience.

Come spend some time with it.

About the Cole

Cole Pauls is a Champagne and Aishihik Citizen and Tahltan comic artist, illustrator, and printmaker based in Haines Junction, Yukon. His work blends humour, surrealism, and Indigenous storytelling, with a focus on language, land, and cultural continuity.
