Untamed Assembly: Backstage of Utopia

Participation in the Venice Biennale is our opportunity to take a stand — a protest.
A protest against Russia’s participation in @labiennale and its presence in the international art scene, which normalizes its actions at a time when Ukraine’s cultural heritage is being deliberately destroyed by aggressor state Russia and human lives are being lost.
🔴 The team of the Latvian Pavilion @untamedassembly invites guests and visitors present in Venice during the opening week, as well as throughout the Biennale until November 22, to take part in the campaign “Death in Venice.”
Artist Krišs Salmanis has developed an open-access protest tool – a design that everyone is invited to use for printing on their clothing or other message-bearing items.
🔴 "Death in Venice" design is available @ www.lcca.lv (link in profile bio)!
In Krišs Salmanis’s design, the Venice Biennale logo is transformed into a political message – the motif of ramparts becomes the Kremlin wall, highlighting Venice’s compliance with Russia and the betrayal of the idea of European unity. In this context, the red color in the Biennale logo takes on a completely different meaning – it becomes a reminder of blood, violence, and the price paid by those whose reality this institutional “neutrality” chooses to ignore.
The design also references Thomas Mann’s iconic novella “Death in Venice,” which, in a romantic and elegiac tone, speaks of the collapse of values and an era. This time, the reference is directed at the Venice Biennale itself. Its decision to accept Russia’s participation becomes a symbolic judgment on the Biennale as an institution that pretends not to see reality.

At the end of February we marked the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of @ukraine.ua 🇺🇦 Russia still continues its war, killings, and systematic human rights violations.
A large number of people have given and continue to give their lives defending their country, by that also security of the Baltic states, Europe and foundations of a civilized society.
❗Given this reality, the announcement made by the organizers of the Venice Biennale on March 4 allowing Russia, an aggressor state, to participate in @labiennale is absolutely unacceptable and despicable. ❗
❗ We as organizers of this year’s Latvian Pavilion @untamedassembly demand that this decision be revoked.❗
The hypocrisy of the Russian Pavilion, which claims that the project aims to highlight ‘the creative potential of peripheral territories and practices,’ is cynical and unacceptable.
Art cannot be separated from politics, especially contemporary art. Art can be used as a very powerful ideological tool.
/
Mēs - šī gada @lv_pavilion organizatori - pieprasām to nepieļaut❗
Krievijas paviljona liekulība, apgalvojot, ka projekta mērķis ir izcelt “perifēro teritoriju un prakšu radošo potenciālu”, ir acīmredzama, ciniska un nepieņemama.
Māksla nav atdalāma no politikas, īpaši laikmetīgā māksla. Māksla var kļūt arī par ļoti spēcīgu ideoloģijas instrumentu.

Untamed Assembly: Backstage of Utopia
Latvian Pavilion @labiennale
✨Opening on May 8 at 13:00 at the Arsenale!
Untamed Assembly: Backstage of Utopia presents newly commissioned work by the interdisciplinary artist duo @mareunrols that has emerged in dialogue with the archives of Untamed Fashion Assemblies (UFA) – a series of experimental fashion, art, and performance events held in Riga between 1990 and 1999 that were initiated by alternative fashion designer @brunobirmanis
Linking past and present, the exhibition highlights utopian thinking in times of transition, asking how collective imagination, desire, and visibility emerge amid shifting political and economic systems—and how futures and new forms of togetherness can be rehearsed behind the scenes rather than on centre stage.
MAREUNROL’S installation rethinks UFA’s legacy from a contemporary perspective, conceived as a backstage—an in-between space of preparation, invisible labour, joy, improvisation and human connection.

✨Meet the artists of the Latvian Pavilion @untamedassembly at the 61st International Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia!
Untamed Assembly: Backstage of Utopia presents newly commissioned work by artist duo MAREUNROL’S that has emerged in dialogue with the archives of Untamed Fashion Assemblies – a series of experimental fashion, art, and performance events held in @riga.lv between 1990 and 1999 that were initiated by alternative fashion designer Bruno Birmanis.
✨@mareunrols (Mārīte Mastiņa-Pēterkopa and Rolands Pēterkops) are working at the intersection of visual art and design, they continually push boundaries, often positioning fashion beyond its traditionally functional role.
The duo’s distinctive approach is a poetic expression of magical realism, emphasising narrative as an artwork, expressed through their interdisciplinary practice, which comprises fabric and textile sculptures, fashion design collections, installations, video and sound art, drawings, photography collages, as well as costume design and scenography for opera and theatre.
✨@brunobirmanis is an artist, performance maker, and curator whose practice unfolds at the intersection of conceptual fashion, the body, and spatial imagination. His work approaches fashion not as a functional system but as a cultural language – capable of articulating ideas, emotions, and collective experience.
In the early 1990s he initiated and created the Untamed Fashion Assembly. Emerging at a moment of political and social rupture, the Assembly became a transnational space for freedom, non-conformism, and creative risk, bringing together young artists from across Europe and redefining fashion as a performative and critical act.
✨Explore the concept they have envisioned for the @labiennale together with the curators @adomas.n & @lace.inga ➡️ www.latvianpavilion.lv

“Untamed Fashion Assembly represents freedom, which due to pressures on society now, is something from the past. It’s in small pockets. Your job is to revive it!” 💬 @andrewlogansculptor

Untamed Fashion Assemblies, which took place in @riga.lv - the capital city of Latvia - in the early 1990s, was an event of this kind - bold, meaningful, worth revisiting as an inspiration for the new.

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
