I'm now open to making custom sets of stilts for performers and artists in the UK.
They are handmade from UK sourced hardwood in Bristol by myself - a professional Prop Maker and Circus Performer.
They come with padded straps and gripped footplates, with options for interchangeable or fixed leg lengths.
The interchangeable stilts will be supplied with a small bag of tools for assembly on request, for a small additional charge.
Pictured are stilts with 2.5ft legs, alongside 3ft and 3.5ft alternate legs.
Prices start from £350 for a single fixed set, with a minimum four week turnaround to allow time for materials to be ordered and delivered.
I'm a stilt performer with years of experience working carnivals and festivals, and test each pair myself to be sure I'm happy with them.
Please do get in touch if you want a pair for yourself, or for a theatrical production.
Thanks!

I'm once again looking for work!
I'm based in Bristol with a studio and have access to a workshop.
Able to travel as needed and happy to work further afield.
I'd love to get another project booked in!
Get in touch with me via DM or email @ alastair@vaguemonkey.com
Cheers!
Al

Finally getting around to codifying my stilts process with a parts and cutting list, so I'm not redesigning them every time I make them!
Knocking out a new pair for another performer over the next few days.
Gimme a shout if you want a set!
Cheers,
VM x

A fun wee project I finished recently: making a set of adjustable peg stilts for my friend @rlwartiste with three swappable leg lengths.
These ones go to 2.5, 3 and 3.5ft, depending on the bravery of the student!
They're made mainly from ash hardwood, and birch ply.
I honestly really enjoyed making these once I had my designs worked out and made a few jigs to speed up some of the processes. I'd love to make a set for myself if I can find the time!
I'd also love to make these for sale! If you fancy a set of peg stilts made by a professional stilt walker - shoot me a DM.
They can be made either with a fixed leg length or interchangeable legs like this set.
As always, made in my awesome workspace in @puppetplace
Cheers!

A fun wee project for a friend!
I'm making a set of peg stilts for use in teaching, with swappable legs depending on how brave the students are feeling.
Made from Ash for it's awesome shock-resistance.
Will post finished photos soon!

Making a set of adjustable teaching stilts for a performer friend this week!
It's been a while since I made a set - the others shown were from a few years ago when I made a few sets to teach in schools for @bathcarnival
I'd love to make more of these if anybody is interested in a set of handmade professional peg stilts!
Cheers!

This was a fun thing from earlier in the year!
I was approached by a friend from a previous project and asked to build this prop/rig/thing for a new TV show. The brief was to create a bank of 14 butler-style bells, to be mounted on set and rung remotely from outside.
It all had to be done wirelessly because we were shooting in a listed building and couldn't start knocking holes through walls.
The solution I hit on was using Wi Fi switches normally meant for controlling lights or appliances in your home. Using a preexisting app, I connected 14 these switches to motors, each of which could be triggered independently and ringing the corresponding bell.
I wasn't on the shoot itself - I was only around for the build. It was a fun but intense build - I do enjoy the pressure of live-action shoots and obscure briefs like this!
Hopefully more in future!

It's been a long time since I've shared anything, but I'm really happy to be able to finally share this!
Back in 2021 or so, I was asked by @linguini.studio to help out with a possible future project. I spoke with the artist @laurentsai and then didn't hear much more about it for a few years.
Roll on to the end of 2023 - I rejoined the project and was asked to build this amazing set! Lauren gave me some wonderful drawings and references, and I spent a few months on-and-off building this mad landscape.
It was painted with a super limited palette, deliberately chosen to mimic Lauren's artwork. We used tonnes of scraps, found objects, bits of toys, etc, to build up this amazing world. The set ended up being really beautiful, and I was flabbergasted with how gorgeous it looked on screen.
It ended up being one of my favourite projects I've worked on - incredible work by everybody involved.
Cheers all!

Lunchtime noodle nonsense.
When I don't have time to create for myself, juggling is my alternative outlet. I find it such a brilliant tool for helping me to calm down, destress, and focus only on what I'm doing in the moment.
I also love that it's entirely free of consequence if I mess up, which is why I included a drop in the second video. I thought about editing it out, but I feel like seeing drops is as helpful as seeing WIPs when sharing artwork!
Hopefully I'll have time to get back to my own work soon, and be able to share some of the really cool stuff I've been working on!
Cheers!

As well as being an experience prop maker, I am also a skilled Tall Person.
Had a brilliant time at the @puppetplace Open Day for Harborfest this - mostly wandering around outside and ushering people.
Also managed to teach a few circus workshops, which went well!
I'm busy for the next few weeks until early August and then free once again for all your modelmaking, set building, and miscellaneous circus needs.
Cheers!

This was another extremely cool project I was recently involved in, and am super happy to be able to talk about!
As part of @aardmananimations @thegrandappeal this year, @puppetplace was asked if we wanted to collaborate on one of the statues for the trail.
A few of us volunteered and alongside @izzlebee, @catrockpuppetry and Ben Mars, I spent many fun hours working on fabricating the additions to the base statue sent to us by Aardman.
The clay work was done by Izzy and Ben, and I did all of the mould making and fibreglassing. We all worked together on painting and finishing, and I'm super happy to see him out in the wild!
The build was sponsored by @redcliffeandtemplebid and is on display next to Valentine Bridge, Temple Quay, close to Bristol Temple Meads.
Go check him out if you get the chance!
Cheers!

The Instagram Story Viewer is an easy tool that lets you secretly watch and save Instagram stories, videos, photos, or IGTV. With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. This limited time frame creates high engagement compared to regular posts. In today’s world, Stories are one of the most popular ways to connect and communicate on social media. However, when you view a Story, the creator can see your name in their viewer list, which may be a privacy concern. What if you wish to browse Stories without being noticed? Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
