New Article - “Baked to perfection- the cinematography of the Great British Bake Off trailer.”

Once there was nothing… and then there was The Great British Bake Off. The Great British Bake Off 2025 has reached its conclusion for another year. 12 contestants have laughed, cried and baked till the bitter end, to reach the final of the nation’s beloved baking show. But this isn’t where it started.

First…there was the trailer. A mesmerising mixture of mediums that connects the dawn of the galaxy, to the swirls in a meringue. From glass ovens to a stop motion pastry snail, Cinematographer Daniel Morgan talks to stopmotioncinmatographer.com about how he went about combining such different elements, and creating a stop motion world that felt completely in sync with both the close up of an eye, and the ingredients of a cake.

Huge thanks to @rosco_labs for donating a selection of their LED panels, they were key in helping us shape the subtle and moody color tones the film asked for. Combined with some lovely, mad sets by @vaguemonkey and a really unique puppet duo from @archfilmstudio , animated by @tobiasfouracre and produced at @linguini.studio by @galactic.nicolas & Jenny Shaughnessy. This project really had a beautiful little film family on it.

Daniel, our wonderful DOP, is a British born, multi award winning Cinematographer with a unique blend of expertise across Live-Action and Stop Motion mediums. Daniel was raised in the UK, US, Belgium and France. Giving him a versatile perspective on culture and life. His studies at Goldsmiths University transitioned a passion for painting into a career in film. He then went on to spend two years at the National Film School (NFTS) where he fine tuned his love for Stop Motion Cinematography. Daniel has worked with some of the biggest brands in the world, Google, Amazon, Ikea, Adidas, Bose, Mulberry and Alexander McQueen. And has recently collaborated on double Bafta winning and Oscar nominated feature, Wallace & Gromit; Vengeance Most Fowl. Daniel’s work spans across Feature Films, Commercial & Drama.

My inner child was very excited to shoot Gromit on his bike, tearing it up through the city. The detail and scale of these sets made these shots a real joy to light up.

A bit of Wallace at the piano and of course, a killer chase scene where Wallace ends up water skying through a toilet tent and into Farmers trailer 😬🐑.
