@williamtylertn “A Dream, A Flood”

When I lived in Hollywood, my window overlooked cars trying to merge onto the 101 freeway. Every day I was introduced to a revolving cast of faces and private dramas. A strange voyeurism that felt familiar: LA traffic, and the weirdness of filming it from the comfort of my couch.

The process reminded me of field recording. William’s “A Dream, A Flood” finds beauty and music in the textures of his everyday life. The drone sound is from the hum of his mini-fridge. The voices are CB radio transmissions, warped until they feel extraterrestrial. I instantly thought of this camcorder footage. This particular character, Lyft Driver, is one of my best caught moments. Together, the song and images create the claustrophobic tension of rush hour on a bad day.
