Matsya is the third of three films we are presenting next week in Nice with Radical Ocean Futures and @tba21academy.
In this allegorical short, an ark ship roams the high seas, visiting threatened ecosystems and coastal communities, acting as a vault for those species, practices, and languages that are existentially threatened by the climate crisis.

Through three new short films, we’ve worked with Radical Ocean Futures and @tba21academy to ask how science/speculative fiction could shape the future of earth’s oceans beyond policy reports. These provocations premiere next week in Nice (link in bio).
In MANA, we explore the vital role of ‘large ocean states’ in marine governance across the Pacific. This film imagines how future attitudes toward marine protection, harvest and logistics might be radically adjusted by higher fidelity sensing and tracking of our oceans in combination with a return to far older cultural traditions of ocean stewardship.

We are excited to premiere three new short films at a workshop for the UN Oceans Conference in Nice next week. These films were developed with Radical Ocean Futures and @tba21academy and they tell speculative stories of governance, resource extraction + activism, and the preservation of threatened existences.
In Havsrå, we explore the looming shadows of deep sea rare-earth mining, and the ways in which civil society resistance to extractive ocean industries might reverberate through culture.

Daughter of the Inner Stars is a 50 minute symphonic orchestral experience blending live narration, original animation, and an original cinematic score by Australian composer Nicholas Buc. Created for children and families, the fantastical environments of this saga form the backdrop for thematic explorations of folklore, animism, grief, and kin. This video is a behind the scenes look at the making of the ambitious 50-minute animation accompanying the show. We explore how we used @unrealengine for worldbuilding and Metahuman / Flow Studio for animation.

The world’s oceans are under unprecedented threat.
From climate change and plastic pollution to overfishing and deep-sea mining, human activity is driving habitat loss and destabilising marine ecosystems.
On 25 March at RSA House, Oceans Futurisms brings together three short animated films, M.A.N.A, Havsrå and Matsya, each imagining a possible future for our seas.
Created by Inferstudio, the films blend scientific research with speculative storytelling to explore ocean governance, marine resources and preservation – offering three science-based visions of the future: cautionary, hopeful, and urgent.
The screenings will be followed by a panel conversation and audience Q&A on ocean policy, climate justice, activism and marine protection.
Limited free tickets available via link in bio. 🔗

It is with incredible sadness that we learned yesterday of the passing of @chongyanchuah
You have been and remain one of our dearest friends, closest collaborators, and a most luminous example of a person.
We studied together, started a studio together, worked together, and lived together. Those years in London fundamentally shaped who we have become, and we are forever grateful to have shared a path.
You reminded us not to take ourselves too seriously, but to be seriously curious. You met every challenge with unmatched vitality. You quite literally showed us new worlds, and invited us to discover even more with you.
This world is so much the better for having had you in it.
Wherever you are now, keep exploring.
We love and miss you.
To your dreaming, to your searching, and to your voyaging.
