To kick off the Fire Horse year, we are excited to offer another series of free workshops to the public! 🐎❤️🔥
Where Hwa Lives: Ancestral Memory and the Korean Diasporic body
🗓️March 6
⏰1-3:30pm
📍Hwa Studio in Arts District
RSVP + application required
A somatic exploration of ancestral memory in the individual and collective body with group discussion, sound, movement, and herbal tea.
This workshop gives members of the Korean diaspora the opportunity to dialogue with, express and explore the ancestral memory that resides in their individual and collective bodies.
We still start with group discussion about common challenges that members of the Korean diaspora face due to histories of war trauma, militarization, immigrant displacement, culture clashing, etc.
Then we’ll move into a series of deep listening and somatic explorations into what within us wants witnessing, releasing, and remembering. What we discover will culminate into a group ritual using voice, sound and movement with the support of live Korean drumming and a chrysanthemum tea serving.
Hosted by Hwa Records and faciliated by @saewwwon @_sunsong_
This workshop is FREE for members of the Korean diaspora many thanks to the @theicala AIR program 🎉
The mission of Hwa Records is to create community spaces for diasporic Koreans to alleviate these stresses. Our team, composed of artists, musicians, and healers @c.ryu_portal @kayla.tange @rodgepodgemusic @saewwwon fulfills this mission through performance art and facilitating workshops that facilitate connection, group processing and diaologue in hopes of transforming our diasporic challenges into collective joy and catharsis.
We look forward to meeting you! ❤️🔥

~ DM OR EMAIL OR TEXT FOR TICKET INFO ~
ESP IF IT’S YOUR FIRST TIME
IF YOU’VE BEEN BEFORE, YOU KNOW THE DRILL

🔥✨We are absolutely thrilled to be in residence with such beautiful makers and thinkers for the next year:) We can’t wait to share all that we are planning. Thank you to all that have believed in us transmuting and transforming our collective and personal fires✨🔥
REPOST @theicala
ICA LA is thrilled to announce the launch of our Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program, a major new initiative created to further our ongoing commitment to directly support artists. The AIR will expand and deepen ICA LA’s presence in the DTLA Arts District—a neighborhood where artists have lived and worked for decades. After a nominations and application process, ICA LA has selected its inaugural cohort of Los Angeles-based artists: Mohammad Tayyeb (@oktayyeb), Julie Tolentino (@thejulietolentino), and Hwa Records (@hwarecords).
Each AIR receives free dedicated studio space for a year; a generous $25,000 honorarium; a stipend for materials, research, and production; and ample opportunities to collaborate with ICA LA staff, supporters, and publics.
Over the years, ICA LA’s program has maintained a sustained dedication to celebrating the emerging, the overlooked, and the marginalized voices of contemporary art and culture. Working in and across the mediums of performance, sound, workshops, and healing practices, for artists Mohammad Tayyeb, Julie Tolentino, and Hwa Records, the invitation to be in residence at ICA LA marks an unparalleled and singular opportunity at pivotal junctures in their respective practices.
A major congratulations to our inaugural cohort of selected artists! We look forward to the year ahead!
ICA LA’s Artist-in-Residence program is made possible with lead support from Getty. Generous support is also provided by a Discretionary Grant from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. ICA LA is grateful to AVA Arts District for their in-kind support.

🐦🔥Thank you to all that witnessed our 𝙁𝙐𝙏𝙐𝙍𝙀 𝘼𝙉𝘾𝙀𝙎𝙏𝙊𝙍𝙎 debut at the Blue Ribbon Garden at the Walt Disney Concert Hall @waltdisneyconcerthall on June 8th, 2025.
🕯️In the last few weeks we have witnessed the world continue to enact violence towards multiple communities, nations, and citizens of the land. The devastation is everywhere.
🐦🔥Our performance was an offering calling in our ancient ancestors and their infinite wisdom but also an opening for our future ancestors. Saewon Oh @saewwwon activated our ceremony with a meditation reminding us that soon, 𝒘𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒃𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔 𝒕𝒐𝒐.
🐦🔥Through our performance we ask, what are the decisions we have to make now so that the world we leave is brighter and more joyous? How do we cultivate a world that cares? What types of futures will we create and protect as ancestors-in-training?
🕯️Endless love to our beautiful community for witnessing and transmuting grief into joy with us.
🐦🔥To the entire @gyopo.us family and your beautiful volunteers, we see the dedication you put into creating space for artists, we are so grateful to all of you.
🕯️Thank you to the @laphil team for the assistance with everything and anything technical behind the scenes.
🐦🔥And of course thank you to those who continue to find ways to melt 🧊 in the city and make resistance and ritual through art.

🐦🔥And of course thank you to those who continue to find ways to melt 🧊 in the city and make resistance and ritual through art.

🔥☀️🪞We are so privileged to spotlight Hwa Records (@hwarecords) for the upcoming 𝐆𝐘𝐎𝐏𝐎 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Performances program. Hwa Records is a team of diasporic Korean performance-based artists and healers composed of Roger Kim (@rodgepodgemusic), Saewon Oh (@saewwwon), Kayla Tange (@kayla.tange), and C.Ryu (@c.ryu_portal).
Hwa Records formed when C.Ryu was diagnosed with hwa-byung in 2020. Hwa-byung translates literally to fire/anger sickness. Per Dr. Bou-Yong Rhi, the syndrome can come from feelings of restraint when confronting feelings of anger as a consequence of unjust circumstances—this restraint, anger, and rage then manifest physically in the body. In Korea, hwa-byung patients are often older women struggling with the weight of an extremely rigid and strict patriarchal society. For Korean Americans, however, hwabyung can come from continued trauma, racism, and the continued pain of imperialism.
Powerfully, Hwa Records uses music to address and heal a collective hwabyung. Through workshops and performances, Hwa Records releases communal hwa through an intersection of music, meditation, and storytelling. For the Diasporic Refractions: Performances program, Hwa Records will be one of four artists/artist groups coming together to create a performance that exhibits the transformation of collective memory and demands collective imagining and building of liberatory futures. Hwa Records’s inclusion is especially memorable for our community, as co-founder Roger Kim was formerly a GYOPO volunteer.

☀️THIS SUNDAY! 6:30PM PST🌒
Last year a group of Korean diaspora artists came together in LA to create a labor of love called “hanzine”.
🌾🌱💚
This Sunday we are hosting a panel to celebrate our zine and we are being joined by the brilliant @stephanieeunhae as our moderator. Register at the link in bio
🌈🍚🙇🏻♀️
💥☄️💥
This moderated conversation brings together the authors and contributing artists of Hanzine to celebrate the launch of the zine. In this conversation, the artists, who have various relationships to the Korean diaspora and practice in a diverse range of artistic mediums, reflect on their collaborative process for Hanzine and beyond. Hanzine is an ongoing zine series that seeks to reflect the kaleidoscopic voices of Korean diaspora artists across borders and generations.

With this service, you can download content and enjoy it offline whenever you like. If you find something interesting on Instagram that you’d like to check out later or want to view stories while staying anonymous, our Viewer is perfect for you. Anonstories offers an excellent solution for keeping your identity hidden. Instagram first launched the Stories feature in August 2023, which was quickly adopted by other platforms due to its engaging, time-sensitive format. Stories let users share quick updates, whether photos, videos, or selfies, enhanced with text, emojis, or filters, and are visible for only 24 hours. Here’s where Anonstories becomes useful. It allows you to watch public Instagram content without revealing your identity. Simply enter the username of the profile you’re curious about, and the tool will display their latest Stories. Features of Anonstories Viewer: - Anonymous Browsing: Watch Stories without showing up on the viewer list. - No Account Needed: View public content without signing up for an Instagram account. - Content Download: Save any Stories content directly to your device for offline use. - View Highlights: Access Instagram Highlights, even beyond the 24-hour window. - Repost Monitoring: Track the reposts or engagement levels on Stories for personal profiles. Limitations: - This tool works only with public accounts; private accounts remain inaccessible. Benefits: - Privacy-Friendly: Watch any Instagram content without being noticed. - Simple and Easy: No app installation or registration required. - Exclusive Tools: Download and manage content in ways Instagram doesn’t offer.
