Sandy Powell is a magician who conjures clothes out of their historical reference into something daringly beyond the real but always believable. Her eye, sense of line and cut, colour and texture, reveal her understanding of character and story, silhouette and structure - but also how it feels to wear the clothes she designs. The inside and the outside - beautiful surfaces that bring hidden worlds of experience into three dimensions. An absolute privilege to have collaborated with her on the film that brought her her first Oscar nomination.
