Happy to share this BTS video from the Resident Evil: Requiem short film that dropped late last month. This was a special project for the director Rich Lee @hypothetical_monkey and me... from the inspired and surprisingly human creative from Capcom @capcomusa and Nomadic @nomadicagency, production and post from spearheaded by Framestore @framestorepictures, the virtual production assets created by our company Synapse Virtual Production @synapse_vp, the shoot in Mexico City with the local production company The Lift @theliftmx helping us gather an ace team, and editor David Checel @davidcheceleditor, composer Jon Natchez @jonnatchez and audio/sound design by Matt Yocum @mattyocumsound all being crushed by respective parties...

Thanks everyone for bringing this project home and making it one of my favorite projects... I don’t know about all you out there in social media land, but I get really grumpy when I’m not able to create projects that move me and that I feel proud of. This healed a part of my soul that I didn’t even know I desperately needed.

Starring: Maika Monroe @maikamonroe, Olivia Aray @olivia.aray

The cinematic dread of Raccoon City returns as horror icon @maikamonroe leads a haunting live-action trailer for ‘Resident Evil Requiem.’ Blending the visceral chaos of the 1990s outbreak with a grounded, “short-film” sensibility, the campaign follows a mother’s desperate fight for survival amidst the collapse of society. Directed by Rich Lee, the promo serves as a gritty prelude to the upcoming game, trading supernatural suspense for the practical terror of smoke machines, sirens, and T-virus mutations.

Excited to share this short film/trailer for the latest installment of the popular video game franchise Resident Evil. The viral short —titled Evil Has Always Had A Name — was directed by Rich Lee@hypothetical_monkey and stars @maikamonroe and @olivia.aray as a young family struggling to survive the chaos during the game’s initial ground zero outbreak in Raccoon City.

Shot in Mexico City last fall, the shot featured a mix of practical locations, set builds and virtual production (with the environments created by @synapse_vp and shot on stage at @simplementemx in the historic Churubusco studios @est_churubusco).

Stay tuned for some making of BTS and the launch of Resident Evil 9: Requiem on February 27, 2026.

The cinematography community lost two titans of the industry today with the passing of Adam Greenberg, ASC and Otto Nemenz. One of the most surprising aspects of writing for @american_cinematographer magazine for 25+ years and co-authoring the @cinelensmanual, was interviewing and getting to know people like Otto and Adam. Yes, both were extremely generous in sharing their insights, experience, technical knowledge and artistry, but I was most taken with them as human beings. Having interviewed Adam several times for articles in the magazine, I was invited into his home, met his lovely wife and got to sit down and pick his brain about anything I could drum up. Invariably, I could never fully account for all that I learned in these interviews within a finite word count for the article but my time interacting with him left a lasting impression.

The same goes for Otto. Virtually every cinematographer certainly in Los Angeles has crossed paths with this legend at his eponymous rental house, but @jayholben and I also conducted an extended interview with Otto on his past and experience with lenses for the Cine Lens Manual. Both of them had such inspiring life stories that held so many twists and turns they’re truly worthy of their own biopics themselves.

RIP gentlemen… Gone but not forgotten.

7 locations. 2 shoot days. 5 days of prep. Virtual Production makes it possible.
Rain or shine, every location was ready, so our team could focus on what matters most: performance.

Our Infinite Height Design removes the boundaries of LED stage architecture, making a 22-foot stage feel like 300 feet.

This is how Synapse sets the standard for Virtual Production.

New work for @coordown just dropped yesterday. These ads are always special for us as they are not only brilliantly conceived by the “Luci” of Small Agency (the dual Luca’s of Luca Pannese @lucapannese and Luca Lorenzini @lorenzini.luca), they raise awareness of important issues and oversights facing those with disabilities, including but not limited to Down Syndrome. My directing partner Rich Lee @hypothetical_monkey and I have done 3 of these over the years and each has been among our most rewarding labors of love.

Huge thanks to our team at Synapse Virtual Production @synapse_vp for not only donating the use of the VP stage for many of the “locations” our ambitious 2-day shoot needed to capture, but they also produced the spot right here in Los Angeles as well. Next but certainly not least, our Italian producing partners at Indiana Production @theindianaway (including EP Karim Bartoletti @karimbartoletti and producer Silvia Bergamaschi @silviaberga) who’ve collaborated on this, our prior Coordown ads, as well as many of Rich and my most cherished jobs and life experiences. Thank you Karim, Silvia and the “other” Luca (@lukebetti) that we can’t seem to get away from mentioning. 🤣

From a technical side, I want to single out my local LA crew with HODs, gaffer Nizar Najm @ocneezy running lighting, key grip Eric Budlong @mtnbikethis, 1st AC Kevin Hughes @blvd_la and DIT Tony Kwan. Equipment was also supported by Niranjan Martin @niranjanx, 20/20 Rentals, Red Digital Cinema (shot on my Raptor XL-X with Zero Optik rehoused vintage Canon FD lenses and Cinelease.

This little guy just showed up at Synapse HQ @synapse_vp. Super proud of the entire team that pulled off the Herculean feat of birthing the Eminem Houdini video into existence utilizing our LED Volume and virtual production. The video is super fun and for it to bring home 2 Moonmen (Visual Effects to Synapse and Best Hip Hop video for director Rich Lee @hypothetical_monkey) is a rewarding recognition to the hard work and dedication of all involved.

Super excited to finally pull the trigger on getting custom cases made for my Altas Orion anamorphics @atlaslensco by Innerspace Cases @innerspacecases

These three house from the 32mm to 200mm focal lengths cut for the series to progress from wides to tight, and not in the original A Set and B Set interspersed offering. I also opted for black cases with a carbon fiber wrap and nickel hardware, which I think just looks bichin’.

Now I gotta wrap all my older cases, those white (and getting reflected in shot) cases ain’t gunna fly any longer.
