The UK’s best new home –Caochan na Creige by @izat.arundell has been named RIBA House of the Year 2025.

A timber-framed, stone clad, self-build home in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, has been praised for its sensitivity to place and exceptional craftsmanship. Caochan na Creige – meaning “little quiet one by the rock” – takes its name from the surrounding landscape.

Clad in Lewisian Gneiss, the very material that shapes the island’s dramatic landscape, the house appears to grow out of its rugged surroundings. The design shows remarkable resilience and restraint, balancing the demands of an unforgiving climate with a deep respect for the surrounding environment.

"The choice of the winner, Caochan na Creige, was unanimous. It addressed every issue – challenging climatic conditions, the relationship to vernacular architecture and a tight budget – with a rare mixture of sensitivity and boldness." - @davidkohnarch, Chair of the RIBA House of the Year Award 2025 Jury.

One of London's most famous churches, St Martin-in-the-Fields was completed 300 years ago this year, to designs by James Gibbs (1682-1754).

The influential design drew on the work of prolific London church architect Christopher Wren, and inspired numerous copycats around the world, particularly in the USA.

Here from our historic collections:
✏️1) A perspective view by Robert West printed as an illustration to 'Maitland's History of London', 1738
⛪2) A 1721 model showing Gibb's design
📷3) The church capured in an 1896 photograph by Charles Latham
✏️4) Unexecuted designs for the steeple by James Gibbs from his 'Book of Architecture, Containing Designs of Buildings and Ornaments', 1728

Anonstories oferuje doskonałe rozwiązanie do ukrywania swojej tożsamości.
