NEW YORK BY DESIGN Pt. 1 — It’s called NY Design Month 👀

It’s May — which means if you like design, you’re suffering from Milan fatigue… but here we go again. NYCxDesign is here.

Some call it Design Week. Industry insiders call it Design Month — because in true New York fashion, no one can agree to keep it to seven days.

If Milan is fashion week for furniture, New York is the after-party — smaller, scrappier, and still figuring itself out.

What a joy it has been to sit back and watch so many @hellohuman.us members celebrated in this year’s Wallpaper* USA 400 - The people shaping Creative America in 2025. And today I’m so proud to share that I’m in there alongside them.

When the list came out this week, the first thing I did was scan for our members’ names… I truly didn’t expect to see my own, and seeing it has put a real 🔥 up my butt! It’s moved me to work even harder for the people I’m lucky to share my professional life with.

I’m grateful to @wallpapermag @ollymason0 @billprinceinc @michaelreynoldsnyc @anna_fixsen for creating space for community builders and recognizing the role we play in shaping Creative America.

This work often happens behind the scenes — creating that rising tide that lifts all boats through opportunities for visibility and storytelling. Our goal has always been to make the design ecosystem even richer, louder, and more connected, and we’ll keep building toward that.

Big shout out to the Hello Human team. You all know what it means to care deeply about your work and the community we serve, and I see you putting your big hearts and your big brains into it every day and it’s a real pleasure and inspiration to witness it ❤️

What a week indeed! Going to savor every moment of this!! 🙏

What a joy it has been to sit back and watch so many @hellohuman.us members celebrated in this year’s Wallpaper* USA 400 - The people shaping Creative America in 2025. And today I’m so proud to share that I’m in there alongside them.

After 37 years, this is the last spring edition of @icff_official.

North America’s largest contemporary design fair — 450+ brands from 35+ countries — moves to November starting in 2027.

@afternoonlight returns for NYCxDESIGN 2026, taking over two floors of @wsanyc at 161 Water Street — the former AIG tower the New York Times recently called the city’s first “It” building.

Founded by Shoppe Object alums Deirdre Maloney and Minya Quirk.

Open to the public May 17–19.

A lamp built from wood and river stone, joined without glue or screws.

Designer Thomas Yang (@thomasyangstudio) is Taiwanese and Northern Italian. His Stone Floor Lamp uses an East Asian technique to join wood directly to natural stone — two materials held together without forcing either one to change.

The kozo paper shade nods to East Asian ceremonial garments, and to the sheets his Italian grandmother dried on the line outside her home.

When it lights up, it becomes a Tian Deng — a Taiwanese sky lantern.

New York Design Week rarely sleeps, but on Friday night, Wallpaper* joined forces with @hellohuman.us and Brooklyn cultural space @publicrecordsnyc for an evening shaped by sound, design and downtown energy.

Set inside the former ASPCA headquarters, guests moved through Public Records’ tree-shaded courtyard over Rosaluna mezcal cocktails before heading upstairs into the listening lounge, where a site-specific installation brought together 13 independent makers co-curated by Wallpaper* and Hello Human. Ambient lighting by Los Angeles @ah.um.studio sat alongside @alma.designstu Studio’s Huipil vase, inspired by traditional woven garments worn by Indigenous communities in Mexico.

As the evening unfolded, DJs francisscissor and Dor Levi soundtracked the Upstairs lounge, before the Sound Room hosted a late-night techno set with @ireenamnes, @onyvaa and @minimalwave Records founder @veronicavasicka spinning into the early hours of the morning.
